This past week on FYFA (and in my life):
Nothing too exciting to report this week. My two younger kids are back at school (so gymnastics meets and basketball games are underway again—luckily I enjoy watching them!). My oldest doesn’t start community college again until the 22nd!
I actually managed to get a fair amount of blogging done lately—believe it or not, I actually have three posts scheduled to go up next week. That’s unusual for me! (But I don’t expect it to last.) I’m also working on my writing more—I’m posting writing goals tomorrow, so I need to be good about sticking with them!
Here’s what you may have missed on the blog since my last Sunday Post:
- Chosen by Kiersten White: Release Day Review & Giveaway!
- Cub by Cindy Copeland: Graphic Novel Review
- 2019 Challenge Wrap-Up

Book Haul:
NetGalley/Digital Copies:
I already read and reviewed Cub by Cindy Copeland. I loved it, so check out my review to find out more! Thanks, Algonquin Young Readers!
I couldn’t resist requesting Don’t Read the Comments because author Eric Smith is seriously one of the best things on Twitter. This cover was illustrated by Mary Luna.
And then I also picked up Eva Evergreen, Semi-Magical Witch. Julie Abe was an AMM mentor, and I’ve had my eye on this book ever since I tried to get in. (I was unsuccessful, but that’s okay because I landed my agent soon afterward.) The adorable cover was illustrated by Shan Jiang.
And finally, I got a digital copy of my friend Kim Oclon’s debut, Man Up, which is releasing in April. This is an LGBT story about a high school senior who struggles with coming out in a school sports environment. Kim is the co-leader of my local SCBWI group, and I’m so excited for her book to be released! (I had to use a pic from her Twitter of the ARCs—Trism Books is a small publishing company, and they haven’t updated the Goodreads entry yet.) The cover was illustrated by Erica Weisz.
BLOGGER FRIENDS: If you’re interested in a copy of this book for review, please let me know. I’d love to help Kim spread the word about her debut!
Great Discussions/Goings On Around the Blogosphere:
- Briana @ Pages Unbound shares her predictions of trends she thinks we’ll see in book blogging in 2020
- Sam @ We Live and Breathe Books wonders why someone would continue a series where they gave the first book a very low rating in her post: Why Punish Yourself?
Also, a reminder that I’m not doing my list of ALL the reading and blogging challenges I can find this year. Here are two other bloggers who’ve created very similar lists:
- Girl XOXO’s The Master List of 2020 Reading Challenges
- And Reading Challenge Addict’s 2020 Reading Challenges

Look at you with all those blog post. You go! Good to hear you are working on your writing. I admire all of you creators. I liked Don’t Read the Comments. It was my first Eric Smith book, and I was happy with it. The characters were great. I especially loved Aaron and his family. Hope you enjoy it too. Thanks for sharing my post. XOXO
I NEVER get ahead—it’s sort of crazy that I have things scheduled!
Ahh yay for being on top of your blogging schedule and I’m so happy you’re working on your writing. I look forward to hearing about your resolutions and hope you can keep up with this! I’m also hoping to focs on my writing more, here’s to hoping we can do this 🙂
Have a beautiful week! <3
So far so good on the writing front. I have a good feeling about this year!
Good luck with more writing. The only way I stay on top of blogging is by blogging ahead and having a lot of posts ready to go.
I wish I was better about blogging ahead consistently, but I know that will never happen. LOL!
Good luck with the writing! I need to get back to my own this year too. But it’s been hard to balance the stress of finding a job and that never ending nagging worry about it and writing. But hopefully this year I’ll nip that in the bud!
Nice new reads! Hope you enjoy them all!
Here’s my StS
Have a GREAT day!
Old Follower 🙂
I’m sure that the job search has made it a lot harder to focus on much else! Hoping 2020 is the year for you!
I am glad you have gotten a little ahead with your blogging for this next week. I have a couple posts ready to go, but I really want to try to get farther ahead. I have some blogging time carved out tomorrow morning, so hopefully I can make some progress then. I hope you enjoy all of your new books! Don’t Read the Comments sounds like something I might like as well. 🙂 Have a great week!
I’m NEVER ahead, so this is momentous for me. 🙂
I love this time of the year when we are still glowing with our successes, enjoying them until they last. I’ve also done a bit more blogging, now adding a book journaling section in my Sunday Post. I’m not sure it’s of interest for anyone else, but so far, I enjoy doing it. I have also reviewed all the books I have read so far in 2020. How long will it last? lol
https://wordsandpeace.com/2020/01/12/sunday-post-20-1-12-2020/
How long will it last is the question I’m asking myself too. 🙂
I’m excited to see your writing goals. I have so much I need to read this month, but starting in February, I really want to figure out some sort of writing routine (for my manuscript) and when it comes to blogging, I need to schedule ahead as much as I can.

Yes, I need a solid routine if I want to actually accomplish anything. LOL!
I think a week of more ordinary routine with a good blogging and writing week is excellent. Enjoy your new reads and have a lovely week!
Anne – Books of My Heart Here is my Sunday Post
Yes, considering all the disasters around here at the end of last year, I’m happy to have some calm weeks. 🙂
It’s still a few weeks til my kids go back to school. I’m envious that you are ahead with your blogging schedule, I never seem to manage it.
Wishing you a great reading week
Oh, don’t worry, I’m sure I’ll be behind again in no time. 🙂
Good luck with the writing! And yay for scheduled posts- that’s something I need to work on. 🙂
Have a great week!
I don’t expect it to be a regular thing. Give me a couple of weeks and I’ll be behind as always. 🙂
Looks like you’re starting the new year off right, super productive! I hope your upcoming books are great reads!
Thanks, Amber!
I should be hiding my face in shame, I know. I do receive a lot of review books (both requested and non), but I have a lot more leftover than I should have at the end of the year!!
Yay for having time to blog ahead! Basketball and gymnastics – two hobbies I did when I was in school too 😉
You’d fit right in with us! 🙂
Isn’t it great when we manage to blog ahead. I would not be able to blog at all other wise 🙂
I don’t manage it often, so I celebrate when I do. 🙂
