The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It’s a chance to share news ~ A post to recap the past week on my blog and share news about what’s coming up in the week ahead.
This past week on FYFA (and in my life):
Still dealing with some of the ramifications of the mental health family emergency I mentioned a couple of weeks ago. Things seem to be on a positive trajectory, but there are good days and bad days. I’ve ended up feeling emotionally drained a lot of days myself, which is why I haven’t gotten a ton of blogging/reading/writing done. But, it is what it is. Family takes priority.
- Thanksgiving. We had a very nice low-key Thanksgiving with just my mom and our kids. We made all foods we’re used to making (for Thanksgiving), and it all went smoothly, so it turned out to be a great day. Then I worked on Black Friday and over the weekend, but it actually wasn’t all that crazy – busier than normal, but not crazy. My middle daughter headed back to Purdue on Sunday.
- NaNoWriMo. Looks like I’m definitely failing my goal, but I decided to focus on family over the holiday instead of stressing myself out over NaNo. I’m hoping to keep up some amount of writing momentum, though, and keep the habits that worked before things got bogged down. (Mainly, going in to work early on days I work in the afternoon and writing in the cafe before my shift. That seemed to work well for me.)
- I joined Hive Social. So, if you’re human, you’ve probably seen all the controversy about Twitter lately. The bookish community has always thrived on Twitter, so it’s been an issue that lots of us have been talking about. We don’t want to lose those connections we’ve made over the years. First people were talking about Mastodon, but honestly, that place just feels like a mystery to me. I did end up joining a Discord community of MG writers and readers, and someone on there first mentioned Hive. I checked it out, and it seemed like a pretty decent (and simple) alternative to Twitter, and lots of bookish folks are over there, so I signed up. I’m not leaving Twitter, but Hive is a happy place to be so far. If you’re on Hive, feel free to follow me there (and I’ll follow you back) – my username is NicoleMHewitt.

So very true! I’m headed out to write today!
Glad you had a good holiday. And yes, family is number 1 in life. I’m not on Twitter much. I’m wondering if I should go on Hive too.
Join the hive! (I just like saying that.) It does feel like a general upgrade from Twitter to me.
Focusing on family is its own reward. I am glad you and yours had a nice low-key holiday. That’s how I like them. God luck on your new socials. Not really feeling it since I had been taking more and more steps away from social media (I am a very causal user)
Yeah, I definitely have a love/hate relationship with social media in general, but it is good for some things.
I’m glad you had a good Thanksgiving! I’m probably going to join Hive after Secret Santa is over. We use Twitter to organize Secret Santa and the holiday card exchange, but other than that, Twitter feels like a gross place to be right now.
Yeah, it’s kind of weird because I want Twitter to be okay because of the bookish community, but then I also kind of want it to fail because of Elon’s insanity? What I really want is for all of bookish Twitter to move to Hive. (You can come over now, without actually leaving Twitter yet – that’s what I did.)
