The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It’s a chance to share news ~ A post to recap the past week on my blog and share news about what’s coming up in the week ahead.

What’s been happening since my last Sunday Post:

My husband’s birthday! We all went downtown on Monday to celebrate. We’ve been saying for the last couple of years that we want to do the architectural riverboat tour in Chicago and feel like tourists in our own city. We found that we didn’t know most of the tour guide’s info, so we were definitely glad we did it! Then we ate dinner at a rooftop restaurant and headed home for cake! (Earlier in the day we’d baked a chocolate cake with mint frosting. Scott has always loved Baskin Robbins’ ice cream cake, but he can’t have it anymore because he’s lactose intolerant – ice cream is a definite no-no – but this mint chocolate cake was a great replacement.)

Family get-together. Today, we’re getting together with extended family to celebrate my mother-in-law, who passed away earlier in the year. Friday would have been her birthday, so we want to honor her by enjoying some of the things she loved!

Repotting plants. We’ve got a bunch of plants (many that Danielle brought home from school) that have just been sitting on an ugly table by the window. I finally bought some nice tiered plant shelves and pots and we repotted them all. I love the way it all turned out! (I had a hard time taking good pics because they’re right in from of the window, but these will give you an idea.)

What I Read:

  • I started reading This Vicious Grace by Emily Thiede. I’m not very far in, but I like it so far!
  • I finished listening to The School for Whatnots by Margaret Peterson Haddix. This book went in a direction I wasn’t expecting. It was quite an engaging listen, and I definitely want to read more of Haddix now.
  • Then I listened to Witchlings by Claribel A. Ortega. Such a cute story that I jumped immediately into book 2, The Golden Frog Games!

What I Watched:

  • I watched a few more episodes of Manifestbut then (as is often the case for me), I ended up losing steam with it once I stopped watching over our vacation. I’ll probably watch again once Danielle is back at school, since I’ve mostly been watching shows with her lately.
  • Danielle and I started watching The Cable Girls, mostly because we were looking for another Spanish language show to watch. Only a few episodes in, but we’re liking it a lot so far!
  • Then Danielle got her wisdom teeth out, so we spent many hours watching TV. We watched both seasons of The Summer I Turned Pretty (except for the last episode, which isn’t out yet). I have a hard time with the love triangle thing. Belly just seems to string the brothers along – and they’re no better because they both know that the other is in love with her too. I just can’t handle the back and forth! I’m wondering if it would be more okay if I were reading the books since you’d be in the characters’ heads more. Then again, maybe not? I actually own the books (all three in one volume), but I haven’t read them. Maybe one of these days…
  • We also watched Red, White, & Royal Blue. I actually liked the movie more than I remember loving the book – I think it might be because the movie’s a bit more condensed and all of the important moments in the book are put into a shorter timeframe.
  • Finally, we got free access to Peacock Premium, so we watched the first episode of One of Us Is Lying. Once again, I’m bad and I haven’t read the book yet – I might need to read it real quick before I finish the show. I can’t decide if I’d rather have the book spoiled or the show spoiled. Maybe I try to read along at roughly the pace of the show? Has anyone tried this?

Here’s what you may have missed on the blog since my last Sunday Post:

  1. I am feeling the same as you about The Summer I Turned Pretty. I got it for the first season, but the love triangle now is totally feeling like she is kind of stringing them along, or like they are doing that to her in some cases. But I also wonder how much is being left out from the books. Because I know that the Twilight movie did not make sense why Bella fell in love with Edward because they left all that stuff out from the book. The tour sounds like fun on the riverboat! Have a great week

  2. That sounds like fun! Yeah, there are still St. Louis things I haven’t done yet but want to. Problem is most of those things tend to be in areas I don’t want to to go to by myself! That’s the trouble with out city sadly. But since my parents like those kinds of things too, it’s no problem getting them on board…finding the right time to go has always been the real issue! Lol. Glad your husband had a good birthday!

Hope you enjoy your week ahead!

    Here’s my StS

    Have a GREAT day!

  3. So One of Us is Lying is amazing. I loved it, and I started watching it mostly because Sara Thompson (the incomparable Josephine Lightbourne I, Hallowed Be Her Name) is in it, but the whole show is great. Of course, it was canceled after S2 because everything is canceled these days, so. Do with that what you will. LOVE the plant shelves too! It sounds like your husband’s birthday was a great time, that is so nice! I also loved This Vicious Grace so I hope you continue to. And you know my feelings on Manifest- I think it is VERY worth it, even though the first season is a little iffy.

  4. Happy belated birthday to your husband!! I love love love these plant shelves so much. I definitely want one, but I guess I’ll have to wait for when we move, because… we don’t have room anymore. And I’d need more than one shelf for all of my plants ahaha.
I so get you about the summer i turned pretty. I enjoyed the tv show – and the books, back when i read them, years ago – but Belly got a little bit on my nerves ahha.
    I hope you’ll have a lovely week! <3
