The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It’s a chance to share news ~ A post to recap the past week on my blog and share news about what’s coming up in the week ahead.
What’s been happening since my last Sunday Post:
Spring Family Weekend at Purdue: Got to to go Purdue to visit our daughter. We went to Spring Fest, which is a fun event put on by the school of Ag and then see our daughter perform with her a capella group. Very fun weekend! (Plus, I’m home on a Sunday now – a very rare occurrence).
Final cover! I got my final cover for THE SONG OF ORPHAN’S GARDEN, and I’ll be revealing it any day now, along with the preorder links!!! Watch this space (and my socials) this week. I’m basically just waiting for the cover to be uploaded to the major sites so I can reveal it at the same time as I give preorder links.
Finished my revise and resubmit: I finished my revise & resubmit for my option title. I actually ended up editing two different versions to send, one completely in verse and one that’s a hybrid of verse and prose. I’m sending it tomorrow. I’m really hoping my editor is happy with one of these and we get to move forward with it, but we shall see!
What I Read:
- I read A Royal Conundrum by Lisa Yee, illustrated by Dan Santat. This book was nominated for the Barnes & Noble Children’s & YA Book Awards. As I mentioned in my last Sunday Post, I’m trying to read all of these so I can properly vote!
- I also read The In-Between by Katie Van Heidrich. This verse novel about a family dealing with homelessness has so much heart!
- Next, I read Ghost Book by Remy Lai, another B&N Book Awards nominee. This is one of my favorite graphic novels I’ve read in quite a while!
- Then my next read was, Parachute Kids by Betty C. Tang, another graphic novel for the B&N Awards – loved this one too! (And I had a little girl come into the store the other day, overjoyed to be able to buy it because she loved it so much.)
- Finally, I listened to The Last Cuentista by Donna Barba Higuera. This one is B&N’s current monthly pick. I try to read these as often as I can so I can recommend them – and this one will definitely be recommended!

Lots of good stuff! Have any news? Feel free to share in the comments!
I didn’t realize the Ag schools were responsible for family days. Rutgers does Ag Field day which is a family event out on Cook Campus (where the cows are). I am very excited to see your cover!!! I read The Last Cuentista a while back, maybe when it first came out. I actually liked her other book a bit more (Lupe Wong Won’t Dance).
The Ag school does a Spring Fest every year, but this year the University decided to do a Spring Parents’ Weekend at the same time. There was also an Aviation Day going on, so we got to see some cool airplanes in the sky.
How nice, that you got to go for the spring days and hear your daughter sing. Exciting for you to have your cover nearly ready to spring on the world.
Well done on that stack of books read considering you were on a trip for some of the week.
Have a good week, Nicole!
How fun to visit your daughter and see her perform! Congratulations on getting your final cover, can’t wait to see the reveal! The books you shared look great, The In-Between sounds like it would be something I’d like. Hope you have a wonderful week ahead!
Sounds like a fun family event at Purdue with your daughter! Also some good books for you this week. I’m so excited for your book to come out. I can’t wait to read it and hopefully recommend it to my state readers award. I was thinking about that as I’m at my state librarian conference and how cool it would be to see your book on that list they are discussing for the current nominees. Hope you have a good week!
I can’t wait to see your cover. It’s so exciting that you’re at that stage in your book release process. I’ve been wanting to read Lisa Yee’s book. I’m glad you enjoyed it so much.
Ghost Book looks good! I will have to look it up!
Ah! I am so excited to see the cover of your book!!
I’m excited to see your cover! I still need to read The Last Cuentista. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a bad review of it.
Glad you got to see your daughter 🙂 I’m excited for the cover!
