The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It’s a chance to share news ~ A post to recap the past week on my blog and share news about what’s coming up in the week ahead.
What’s been happening since my last Sunday Post:
We were supposed to be going to Purdue to visit my daughter this weekend, but the night before, my son threw up and my husband was also sick. So, that didn’t happen. The only bright side is that I have plenty of time to write a Sunday Post this week, since I took the weekend off for the trip. Yay?
Book News:
I forgot to tell you guys last weekend that I posted about my inspiration for THE SONG OF ORPHAN’S GARDEN on the Middle Grade Escapades blog. So, if you’re curious about where I came up with the idea or if you want to hear a bit more about it, please check out that post. (Click the link above or click on the image.)
As a reminder, the book is available on both Edelweiss and NetGalley. Go forth and read! 🙂 (And if you do, I’d appreciate it if you leave a review!) Also, it’s a Junior Library Guild Gold Standard Selection!!!
What I Read:
-
- I read Story Spinners: A Sisterly Tale of Danger, a Princess, and Her Crew of Lady Pirates by Cassandra Federman. This hilarious graphic novel is about two polar-opposite sisters who (reluctantly) tell a tale together. It is so much fun!!
- I listened to Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt. This book totally lives up to all the hype. I was entranced by it.
- Finally, I listened to The Lost Year by Katherine Marsh, a harrowing tale of the little-known famine in Soviet-Ukraine in the 1930’s. This book broke my heart multiple times over.
Here’s what you may have missed on the blog since my last Sunday Post:
- Nothing, but here’s another link to my post on Middle Grade Escapades that talks about my inspiration for TSoOG (in case you missed it. LOL): Author Spotlight: Nicole M. Hewitt

I will be reading your book, but have to wait till closer to pub date to fit it into my reading/review schedule. So probably on my Christmas break most likely. I’ll have to go read the post about your inspiration! Have a good week!
No rush, obviously! I always have that little reminder about the book being available on NetGalley and Edelweiss because you never know when someone new might pop in to read a Sunday Post. 🙂
That’s a bummer about your trip, but uhhhhhh it’s good you escaped whatever your husband and son got. I am big fan of Creatures, so I am glad to hear you enjoyed it.
Yes, I was very glad that I didn’t get sick too!
Remarkably Bright Creatures was the book for my city to read this year, and the author came to my library. But for some reason, I’m still weary of the hype…
I pretty much only end up reading adult books if there’s some hype behind them, just because I read so few that I want to feel like they’re going to be good. LOL! I had multiple coworkers tell me they loved this one, so I decided to jump onboard – and I’m glad I did!
I hope everyone is feeling better.
Spinners sound really cute.
Thanks. Luckily, it was a quick illness, so everyone seems fine again.
I hope everyone feels better soon. Good luck with your book!
Thank you!!
I hope your husband and son are feeling better!
Remarkably Bright Creatures is one of my favorites! I hope everyone in your family feels better soon:-)
I didn’t realize you had written a book, that’s so exciting! I hope your launch goes well, it was interesting reading that blog post about your inspiration for it. I hope your son and husband both feel better soon.
