Top Ten Tuesday (Required Reading) & Teaser Tuesday (Beautifully Broken by Sherry Soule)

Teaser Tuesday, Top Ten Tuesday 0

Today’s Top Ten Tuesday is: Top Ten Books That Should be Required Reading I started out taking this list semi-seriously (semi is the key word here) and then moved on to just plain silly: You Are Mine by Janeal Falor – I just read this book (review is coming soon) and I think that students could actually get a lot out of reading it!  It would teach about gender discrimination and xenophobia and would spark great discussions about how society’s norms dictate what we say and do. The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan – This one might be for the younger ones, but I’ll bet there are teachers who actually use it to help get kids interested in mythology. Storm by Brigid Kemmerer – This book teaches a lot about bullying and touches on teen sexual assault. Girls and guys alike should take the messages in this book and apply them to life.  Maybe they could read this in a… Read more »

Top Ten Tuesday (Top Topics that Turn Me Away) & Teaser Tuesday (Haven by Celia Breslin)

Teaser Tuesday, Top Ten Tuesday 0

Today’s Top Ten Tuesday is: Top Ten Topics or Words That Make Me Not Want to Pick Up a Book I actually had a hard time coming up with this list because I’ve never really thought about it before.  But there are definitely types of books that I lean toward and types of books that I avoid.  So, in no particular order, here is a list of topics/words/genres that just don’t do it for me: Non-fiction – The only type of non-fiction that I really read are Christian books (and usually those are because I’m in a Bible study or something, not because I just decided to pick up a non-fiction book). Occasionally, I will read a non-fiction book about a specific topic that I want to learn about (like photography or something), but I almost never see a random non-fiction book and think, “Oooh!  I want to read that!” Erotica – I… Read more »

Top Ten Tuesday (Top Ten Summer Reads) & Teaser Tuesday (Jack Templar, Monster Hunter)

Teaser Tuesday, Top Ten Tuesday 13

Today’s Top Ten Tuesday is the top ten books on my summer reading TBR list.  Here goes! Long Overdue (Meaning, everyone else has already read these!)        City of Bones – With the movie coming out soon, I really want to read this one. Cinder – I wasn’t sure if I was interested in this book or not at first.  Cyborgs are not always my thing.  But, it has gotten such rave reviews from so many people that I’ve decided to check it out after all. Shadow and Bone – Okay, I have to confess that I often judge a book by its cover and this cover just didn’t get me interested in the book.  But, the rave reviews did, so I definitely want to read it soon. The Selection – I’ve been wanting to read this book for awhile and I’m finally getting to it.  I actually picked this book up from the library just… Read more »

Teaser Tuesday & Top Ten Tuesday

Teaser Tuesday, Top Ten Tuesday 13

This is a freebie week at Top Ten Tuesday.  Since I just started participating in Top Ten Tuesday, I thought I’d go back and look at past topics and choose one of those.  This is the one that struck me – Top 10 books I read before I was a blogger.  Since I haven’t been blogging for all that long, I thought this one would be easy! The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins – I absolutely loved this book and I’m pretty sure it introduced me to the dystopian genre, so I definitely need to give this one credit. Twilight by Stephenie Meyer – I had to include this book because it got me back into reading.  When I was a kid all the way up into my mid-twenties, I read A LOT.  But, then I had kids and somehow couldn’t find the time or the energy to pick up… Read more »
