Sunday Post & Giveaways Galore 10/12/14

Sunday Post 8

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on my blog and share news about what’s coming up in the week ahead. Last week on FYFA: This week was another really busy week in our household! Very crazy, and I was feeling a bit overwhelmed, so I didn’t even post on Friday or Saturday, which is unusual for me. I spent most of Friday shopping for clothes for my daughter – she had almost no long-sleeved shirts that fit her and was starting to look a little goofy in her too-short shirts. And then I spent most of yesterday taking my son to his orchestra rehearsals (and editing at Starbucks while he was there) and searching for a bow tie for his concert tomorrow – nothing like waiting till the last minute… Read more »

Hey, everybody!  I am so excited to be joining the Twixt guided tour just in time to celebrate the release of Invisible, which came out last week! If you haven’t read the first book in this series yet, what are you waiting for? I absolutely LOVED it! Go check out my review of Indelible HERE! But … WAIT! Make sure you come back here because I don’t want you to miss out. We’re going to be meeting up with one of the characters from the book today, right here in Abbot’s field … Joy. She should be around here somewhere … Ah, yes, there she is! See the athletic looking girl with her brown hair up in a ponytail.  Yep, that’s definitely Joy. She’s even wearing her signature non-matching socks. I’d recognize her anywhere! Hey, maybe we can talk her into doing a tumbling pass for us or something. At least… Read more »

Review & Giveaway – Sacrifice by Brigid Kemmerer

Review & Giveaway – Sacrifice by Brigid Kemmerer

Giveaways (Ended), Reviews 22 ★★★★

***While this review is for book #5 in the series, there are no major spoilers for any of the books in this review.  Check out my reviews for the other books: Storm, Spark, Spirit, Breathless, Secret*** Sacrifice is the final (maybe?) installment in the Elemental series by Brigid Kemmerer. This is one of my favorite YA series, so the ending is sort of bittersweet for me. While I was really looking forward to seeing how Kemmerer wrapped it all up, I was also very sad to see the series go. This book follows Michael as he struggles to keep his family safe from the Guides. When things start going up in flames, Michael and his brothers are once again under scrutiny. But what Michael doesn’t want to admit – to anyone – is that someone is threatening him and the people he loves. Is it the Guides or someone else… Read more »

Review & Giveaway – Lailah by Nikki Kelly

Review & Giveaway – Lailah by Nikki Kelly

Giveaways (Ended), Reviews 35 ★★★★

I really loved this book! It did have some flaws, but I was completely sucked into the story and loved the characters. This was one of those books that I just didn’t want to put down – and now I can’t wait for the next installment. What I LOVED: Shades of Gray. Those of you who read my reviews often know how much I love stories that involve not just good and evil, but everything in between. Well, this book definitely does that! This book explores angels and vampires and Lailah, who is something else entirely. The vampires in the book definitely have baser instincts – even the vampires who are trying their best to gain back some of their humanity feed off of humans (and not in a nice, volunteer sort of way like happens in Vampire Academy). Let’s talk about the characters more specifically … Lailah. Lailah is a complex character… Read more »

Review & Giveaway – Twelve by T.M. Franklin

Giveaways (Ended), Reviews 6 ★★★★½

The action-packed conclusion to the MORE Trilogy is here! ***NOTE: This is a review of book #3 in a series and may contain spoilers for the first two books. You can read my review of book #1 HERE and book #2 HERE.*** I’ve been anxiously waiting to see how this series was going to end, and Twelve did not disappoint!  It was full of action and suspense, plus it gave us some Caleb and Ava on the side! This book picks up where The Guardians left off. Ava and Caleb are with the Guardians, but the group knows that the only way to defeat Ava’s maniacal father is to join forces with the Council. Of course, that might be easier said than done. Plus, they’ll need to find as many members of The Twelve (Ava’s powerful brothers and sisters) before the Rogues get ahold of them first – because time is running… Read more »

YA Fandom Frenzy

YA Fandom Frenzy

Book Events 12

On Sunday, my mom (whose birthday we were celebrating!!) and I went to the YA Fandom Frenzy (hosted by Anderson’s Bookshop). There were 40 YA authors there, and probably about 200 attendees. It was all a bit crazy, but also really fun!! Here are some of the highlights: Cassandra Clare and Holly Black were up first (both with very colorful hair!), and they talked about their process for writing The Iron Trial. They said that basically, one of them would write a chapter (or section) and then the other person would edit it, write over it, etc. and then write another chapter or section. Then they would pass it over to the other person and do the same. Sounds simple, right? But you’d have to really work well with the other person for it to work! They said that even Holly’s mom wasn’t able to tell who wrote what when it… Read more »
