Review – White Hot Kiss by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Review – White Hot Kiss by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Reviews 11 ★★★★★

This series could easily become an obsession. It has everything I love in a YA paranormal romance – lots of supernatural action, unique paranormal elements (gargoyles, really?), and a bad boy who isn’t a jerk. What I LOVED: Layla. Layla is one of those characters that I just instantly connected with. She has spent her life feeling out of place in the world she’s lived in – while the Wardens took her in as a child, she has never felt like one of them – her Demon side has always prevented that. She’s also been lusting after the guy she was raised with, Zayne – but she can’t have him because if she were to kiss him, she’d take his soul. Layla struggles constantly to keep herself in check because the desire to take a soul is always overwhelming. Because of this, she can’t help but feel like she is,… Read more »

Review – Lost in Starlight by Sherry Soule

Review – Lost in Starlight by Sherry Soule

Reviews 3 ★★★½

This was an enjoyable book, but I have to admit that it didn’t feel incredibly unique and was a little bit predictable, which is why it only gets 3.5 stars from me. Still, it was a quick read, and by the end of the book I was definitely engaged in the story – and I’m intrigued to find out what will happen in the next book! What I LOVED: Sloane. Sloane was a fun, snarky character with an investigative mind (she was a journalist, after all). Once she set her mind to figuring out what was going on with Hayden, she was not about to give up. Overall, I really liked Sloane’s feistiness, though I did wish she was a little bit stronger where one character was concerned (see my negatives below). I also loved that Sloane was a fan of horror films and blogged about them. The snippets from her… Read more »

Let’s Discuss – Pride and Prejudice Next Steps: Need Your Help!

Let’s Discuss – Pride and Prejudice Next Steps: Need Your Help!

Let's Discuss 27

Okay, so I finally read Pride and Prejudice, and I really enjoyed it. I don’t know if it changed my life or anything, but I can see why people love this book so much. It’s just sort of an institution in itself, isn’t it?  Well, now that I’ve read the book, I want to check out some of the MANY Pride and Prejudice related shows, books, etc.  But there are so many, and I don’t know what’s good. So, this is where I need you Austenites – What do I need to watch and/or read? Which is the best movie version of P&P? What other books and movies should I check out – modern retellings, etc?  I have read one book – Finding Mr. Darcy: High School Edition, and it was fun, but a little too … high school. Now I want more! Oh, and I’ve also watched quite a few episodes of the web… Read more »

5 Star Review & Giveaway – Invisible by Dawn Metcalf

5 Star Review & Giveaway – Invisible by Dawn Metcalf

Giveaways (Ended), Reviews 16 ★★★★★

***This review is for book #2 in the series, and may contain spoilers for the first book in this review.  Check out my review Indelible HERE.*** I think I’m in love with Dawn Metcalf. Honestly, I don’t know where she comes up with these books, but I love them! They have the types of magical creatures that we’re used to from faery books, but then Metcalf adds this whole new layer with the Signaturae, the symbols that connect the human world to the Twixt. I know, it sounds a bit confusing (and it can be a bit in the first book), but I’m in love with the idea and with the creative ways that Metcalf uses it. I just can’t express to you how much I adore these books! So, Invisible starts pretty much where Indelible left off. Joy has saved the world from the evil Aniseed, who wanted to… Read more »

Sunday Post & Giveaways Galore 10/12/14

Sunday Post 8

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on my blog and share news about what’s coming up in the week ahead. Last week on FYFA: This week was another really busy week in our household! Very crazy, and I was feeling a bit overwhelmed, so I didn’t even post on Friday or Saturday, which is unusual for me. I spent most of Friday shopping for clothes for my daughter – she had almost no long-sleeved shirts that fit her and was starting to look a little goofy in her too-short shirts. And then I spent most of yesterday taking my son to his orchestra rehearsals (and editing at Starbucks while he was there) and searching for a bow tie for his concert tomorrow – nothing like waiting till the last minute… Read more »

Make sure you come back here because I don’t want you to miss out. We’re going to be meeting up with one of the characters from the book today, right here in Abbot’s field … Joy. She should be around here somewhere … Ah, yes, there she is! See the athletic looking girl with her brown hair up in a ponytail.  Yep, that’s definitely Joy. She’s even wearing her signature non-matching socks. I’d recognize her anywhere! Hey, maybe we can talk her into doing a tumbling pass for us or something. At least… Read more »

Review & Giveaway – Sacrifice by Brigid Kemmerer

Review & Giveaway – Sacrifice by Brigid Kemmerer

Giveaways (Ended), Reviews 22 ★★★★

***While this review is for book #5 in the series, there are no major spoilers for any of the books in this review.  Check out my reviews for the other books: Storm, Spark, Spirit, Breathless, Secret*** Sacrifice is the final (maybe?) installment in the Elemental series by Brigid Kemmerer. This is one of my favorite YA series, so the ending is sort of bittersweet for me. While I was really looking forward to seeing how Kemmerer wrapped it all up, I was also very sad to see the series go. This book follows Michael as he struggles to keep his family safe from the Guides. When things start going up in flames, Michael and his brothers are once again under scrutiny. But what Michael doesn’t want to admit – to anyone – is that someone is threatening him and the people he loves. Is it the Guides or someone else… Read more »

Review & Giveaway – Keep Me Safe by Maya Banks

Review & Giveaway – Keep Me Safe by Maya Banks

Giveaways (Ended), Reviews 21 ★★★½

Keep Me Safe is romantic suspense with a psychic twist! This book was different than anything I’d ever read before, so it was fresh and interesting to me. I really enjoyed the overall concept, but there were a few major points that kept me from truly loving it. What I loved: The concept. The concept of this book really struck me and made me instantly empathize with Ramie. Ramie was a psychic who helped locate kidnapping victims – but when she was psychically linked to the victim, she would actually experience whatever the victim was going through. It was not as if she was just witnessing it, but actually going through whatever they were going through. She even exhibited the physical signs of the attacks (though I think she recovered from them more quickly than an actual victim – this wasn’t entirely clear). Obviously, this was horrendously traumatic for her, and she… Read more »

Review & Giveaway – Lailah by Nikki Kelly

Review & Giveaway – Lailah by Nikki Kelly

Giveaways (Ended), Reviews 35 ★★★★

I really loved this book! It did have some flaws, but I was completely sucked into the story and loved the characters. This was one of those books that I just didn’t want to put down – and now I can’t wait for the next installment. What I LOVED: Shades of Gray. Those of you who read my reviews often know how much I love stories that involve not just good and evil, but everything in between. Well, this book definitely does that! This book explores angels and vampires and Lailah, who is something else entirely. The vampires in the book definitely have baser instincts – even the vampires who are trying their best to gain back some of their humanity feed off of humans (and not in a nice, volunteer sort of way like happens in Vampire Academy). Let’s talk about the characters more specifically … Lailah. Lailah is a complex character… Read more »
