This past week on FYFA (and in my life):
Yesterday was my daughter’s first swim meet of the season and today we’re celebrating my youngest’s birthday with extended family, so it’s a busy weekend! I’ve also been working on a final edit of Allie Juliette Mousseau’s latest (which she’s writing under the name Raeah Wilding), Orion.
Here’s what you may have missed on the blog this past week:
- Brooding YA Hero by Carrie DiRisio: Review & Broody’s Top Ten Addictions – You just have to go and read Broody’s top ten addictions because they’re hilarious!
- Scion of the Fox by S.M. Beiko: Review, Giveaway & Beiko’s Top Ten Addictions – And then, after you read Broody’s, read Beiko’s Top Ten Addictions while you’re at it!
- My Unpopular Opinion About Banned Books Week: Let’s Discuss! – I had thoughts about Banned Book Week that I don’t think everyone will agree with—at least not fully
Next week on FYFA:
- Dreamland Burning by Jennifer Latham: A Dual Review with AJ @ Read All the Things!
- Bite-sized reviews of Hanna Who Fell from the Sky, Nyxia, Frost Like Night, My Heart and Other Black Holes and The Raven Boys Series.
- Seize Today by Pintip Dunn: Review & Giveaway
- Let’s Discuss: Something bookish! 🙂

Book Blogger Birthdays and Blogoversaries:
Here are the birthdays and blogoversaries this week! I hope you’ll go wish these bloggers well on their special days! Make sure you check out the calendar to see what you might have just missed or what’s coming up. (If you want to be added to the calendar, you can always fill out the birthday/blogoversary form.)
- October 22nd – Lisa @ Lisa Loves Literature‘s Birthday
In case anyone’s been paying close attention, you might have noticed that I sometimes skip events that are listed on the calendar. There actually is a reason for this—basically, I don’t post about a blogoversary if the blog hasn’t been updated in months. Why? I mean, the blog is still there, right? I just made the decision that it might actually be more awkward to wish someone a happy blogoversary on a blog they’re no longer actively working on than to ignore it altogether. If the blog still exists, I leave it on the calendar for now, just in case the blogger returns to us!
I’ll update you next week.
Great Discussions/Goings On Around the Blogosphere:
- Cait @ Paper Fury got a publishing deal!!! Her book A Thousand Perfect Notes will be coming out in June of 2018. You can even already pre-order the book on The Book Depository, so go do it now! (I did!)
- This is actually a Twitter thread, but I’m putting it up here anyway since I feel like Maggie Stiefvater had some great ideas about why adults actually read YA.
- AJ @ Read All the Things tells us about foods she’d eat if she was fictional
- Book Riot has a great idea for travel mementos: collecting library cards!
- If you’ve ever written a YA book (or contemplated writing one) Serendipity’s 8th YA Discovery Contest starts November 1st!

Happy birthday to your youngest! And thanks for giving my fictional foodie post a shout-out.
I loved that post!
Happy birthday to your youngest. I hope you all have a great day! I saw Cait’s news on Twitter; that’s so exciting. I really need to work on my personal writing more – seeing things like this makes me more motivated. LOL It’ll be you one day, I’m sure of it!
-Lauren
I know, right? When we see other people we “know” being successful, it makes us think maybe we can do it too!
I hope the swim meet and the party went well. I started Brooding and the whole book is pretty hilarious. The tropes we love seem kind of silly when they are all in one place, but I still love all them.
I agree about Brooding—it’s fun to laugh at the ridiculousness of some of those tropes!
It sounds like an exciting weekend. Good luck on you duaghter’s swim meet and Happy Birthday to your son. And happy reading:)
Thanks, Laura!
Aww! Thanks for the birthday shout out!
You’re welcome!
I am curious about the upcoming Mousseau book. I enjoyed her previous series and the cover for Orion is stunning! Hope you had a wonderful weekend with your family!
I’m glad you’ve enjoyed her books!
Can’t wait to see what you got this week next week! Lol!!
And yay! I think the preorders being listed in release date order is a GREAT idea! And still marking the new ones! Definitely makes it easier if you happened to skip a week of looking at posts…which is likely to happen in my future soon! Whelp!
Here’s my STS
Have a GREAT day!
Old Follower 🙂
Yeah, I figure it’s easiest if they’re organized by date but I give some indication of which ones are new.
Oh happy birthday. I hope you’re having a wonderful time celebrating. Have a wonderful week and happy reading. ?❤️
Thanks, Geybie!
Happy birthday to your little one! Hope the family celebration was lots of fun.
I enjoyed your thoughts on banned books last week.
Hope your week is off to a great start, Nicole!
Thanks, Tanya!
It sounds like a busy week! Happy Birthday to your little one! I hope you have a great week!!
Thanks so much!
Birthdays and swim meets! What a busy weekend! I hope you had a great one! And happy birthday to the youngest!
I hope you’ve been having a great week this week.
Seems like all my weekends (and weeks, for that matter) are busy ones. Never a dull moment around here!
I hope you had a great weekend! I was extremely busy with events this past weekend too. Uncharacteristically busy. Hosting the school dance Friday night, UIL meet Saturday (at school from 6:30 to 1:00), hour of travel to shower and then be on the road for over an hour to a hockey game, and on Sunday I woke up to get on the road for an hour for a lunch celebration for my parents’ wedding anniversary. I crawled in bed at 5:15 pm and slept like the dead.
Hope it was all fun to make it worth it!
Here’s hoping your daughter had a fun and wonderful swim meet! And that your youngest had the happiest birthday ever!!
PS I love that you changed the pre-order section, it makes it so easy to go through.
I love my Sunday Posts, but they’ve gotten so long. I thought the scroll boxes would make things a lot easier.
