This past week on FYFA (and in my life):
Another unfortunately eventful week in the Hewitt household. We ended up at the ER for the second time in two weeks (in case you missed it, the first time was when my husband cut his finger with a hatchet). This was a much more serious incident—my daughter was in a car accident. My husband and I were at my son’s floor hockey game when I got a call from a number I didn’t recognize (and of course I just ignored it). A few minutes later, I checked my voicemail and saw the transcript. It said, “Hi ________ my name is _______. _________ is actually here um in the emergency room after a car accident…”
At that point, I pretty much went into panic mode. Since the transcription doesn’t write out names, I didn’t even know who was in the emergency room and I hadn’t gotten far enough in the transcript to see that whoever it was, she was awake and talking. I basically leaped over people in the stands so I could get to the hallway and listen to the message (it was super loud in the room). And after I heard it was Jade, I dashed back in and whisper-yelled to my husband from across the stands. Those were some of the scariest minutes of my life. Turns out, Jade ended up with a broken ankle, a sprained ankle and a nasty 7-inch gash on her leg that took 16 stitches (3 on the inside) to patch up. Plus, some minor cuts and abrasions from the glass. But when we saw the state of the cars, we were thanking God that nothing worse happened. Her car is the one on the right:
We don’t know anything about the other driver, so I’m praying he’s okay. That Camaro didn’t have airbags or anything.
After 24 hours in the hospital, we found out Jade doesn’t need surgery (thank you, God), and Jade was able to walk well enough on her sprained ankle to come home with a walker (once the sprained ankle is better, she’ll switch to crutches—my sister-in-law also lent us a wheelchair, which has come in very handy).
On a better note, today is my mom’s birthday!! Happy birthday, Mom!!!

I have tears in my eyes just reading that account of what happened. It’s one of the worst types of calls one can get. I am glad that Jade is relatively ok. Sixteen stitches is no joke. I hope your mom has a wonderful birthday! Thanks for the birthday wishes XOXO
Thanks for the happy birthday wish! I am having a great day with Nicole and family. ?
Gay
Yes, it was a terrifying experience, and we’re so thankful she wasn’t more hurt. Unfortunately, it’s looking like she got a concussion because now she’s suffering from a lot of nausea and some headaches and general fatigue. She says she wishes she just had more broken bones!
That is so scary and of course the last thing a parent wants to hear, So glad she was not more seriously hurt! Sending lots pf prayers and well wishes your way!!
Happy birthday to your mom too!
Hope you have a calm week ahead!! 🙂
Thanks for the birthday wishes Greg. ?
Thank you! We are hopeful for no more trips to the ER!!
I can’t imagine how scare you were after discovering your daughter were in a car crash. Hope she recovers well and fast. Sending hugs.❤️
Happy birthday to your mom!!!
Tânia @MyLovelySecret
Thanks for the birthday wishes Tania. ?
Thanks for the well-wishes! It was definitely a scary experience.
Oh my god I can’t imagine how scary that must have bee. I’m really happy to hear your daughter is okay for the most part and I hope she recovers quickly and nicely. I’m sending you and her lots of love and healing vibes <3 <3
A very happy birthday to your mom!
I hope you'll have a lovely week, Nicole, sending you love <3
Thanks for the birthday wishes. ?
Thank you!! We’re dealing with some after-effects now–it’s looking like she has a concussion–hopefully the symptoms from that will go away soon so she can get back to normal life!
Oh wow, that must have been really scary. I’m glad she’ll make a full recovery.
Yes, I definitely don’t want to go through another scare like that again!
Oh my goodness….I’m so glad that Jade is ok. Car accidents are by far my biggest fear, and I can only imagine how scary it all was for all of you! Sending lots of wishes for a speedy recovery!
I’m definitely a lot more nervous about car accidents now!
What a scary experience! I am so glad Jade wasn’t hurt even worse. Thank goodness she doesn’t need surgery. I hope she heals quickly and is able to get a little better soon.
Yes, it was definitely scary!
Oh man… I am so glad your daughter is okay! Please and her my well wishes. This is giving me flashbacks to when I had an awful car accident a couple years ago. I didn’t even have the guts to look at what had happened to my car because apparently it was bad. But anyway, I’m glad nothing worse than a broken ankle and laceration happened.
You’ve had quite a few stressful weeks so I hope things get better!
Jade didn’t want to see the wound on her leg. She said she’d just rather not know how bad it was (it wasn’t pretty).
It is so scary having teens out on the road. I didn’t get it when I was a teen but I definitely do now. I am sorry that your daughter has to go through this but am so thankful that she wasn’t hurt any worse than she was, although a broken ankle, stitches, and a sprained ankle is nothing to gloss over. I hope you have a much calmer and enjoyable week.
Yes, and soon I’ll have another daughter driving as well, so I’ll be twice as terrified!
YIKES!!! What a scary phone call. So glad she is mostly alright. Sending all the healing vibes!
Yes, it was definitely one of the scariest moments of my life!
I’m so glad Jade wasn’t hurt any worse than she was. I can’t even imagine how scary that call was to receive. I’m tearing up just reading your account!
Thank you—yes, it was definitely a scary incident!!
I’m just glad Jade’s okay! That’s a nasty picture seeing the cars. Hope the other driver is doing okay too! It’s sickening sight, so again, super glad she’s okay!
Hope your week will be…err…less eventful this week! Happy Reading!
Here’s my StS
Have a GREAT day!
Old Follower 🙂
We were able to talk to the guy at the tow truck place and he said that the other driver seemed to be okay. He told him he was a little banged up, but fine for the most part, so we’re thankful for that!!
That is pretty scary! And judging by the damages on both cars, you all are definitely lucky. I hope your daughter recovers from her injuries fairly easily.
Wishing you all good thoughts.
Yes, we were so glad it wasn’t even worse!
Oh my goodness! I hope your daughter is doing okay! I know how terrifying it can be to be in a car accident. Hope things turn out okay for you and your daughter.
Thank you! We’re still dealing with some of the repercussions of the accident, but it definitely could have been worse.
Oh my goodness Nicole I cannot even imagine how terrifying for you and for Jade! I am so sorry it happened, but so very glad she is okay. And definitely sending good thoughts out into the universe for the other driver- that looks bad. Hopefully you guys are all done with ER visits!
Happy birthday to your mom, too! Hope she’s had a great one! 😀
We found out from the guy at the tow truck place that the guy in the other car is pretty much okay, so we’re incredibly thankful for that!
Oh my goodness… the state of those cars… I am so so glad to hear Jade is okay and that despite her injuries she didn’t need surgery and will recover. Thanking God as well that she is safe! Hoping the best for the other driver… that doesn’t look good :/
Turns out she does need surgery, but we’re still thankful that it wasn’t worse!
I’m so sorry that your daughter was hurt, and very glad that she is recovering.
Wishing you a great reading week
Thank you!
sorry to hear about the bad news, but a happy birthday to your mom
Thanks! I’ll pass along your well-wishes!
Oh my! I’m glad your daughter is okay, and I hope she heals quickly. Happy birthday to your mom! Let’s all hope for a boring week this week…
Yes, boring is definitely the goal right now (though, so far we haven’t been terribly successful).
Oh my goodness. I’m so glad Jade is okay! I’m so glad we have strict car safety regulations in this country. Just look what happened to the car but it saved your daughter! Bless those engineers. I hope she settles in okay soon. I know how hard recovery from an accident is. <3
So very true. We now bought a car with a bunch more safety features, even, and we’re thankful for all those advancements!
Wow, that’s scary. I’m glad Jade is mostly okay. I hope her legs heal quickly.
Also, happy birthday to your mom!
Yes, it was definitely scary. We’re glad things didn’t end up being worse.
Her injury was still bad but you’re right – looking at those cars – it could have been so much worse.
That must have been a terrifying message to get.
Karen @ For What It’s Worth
Yes, we were so thankful it wasn’t worse!
I’m so glad that your daughter is ok! Especially after seeing the pictures of the cars! Fingers crossed the ankle and stitches heal well with no complications.
Yes, when we saw the cars, we realized it could have been so much worse, so we’re very thankful.
I hope your daughter has an easy road on her healing. It seems like every week is crazy these days. Here’s to a relaxing, easy week with some great reads!
Anne – Books of My Heart Here is my Sunday Post
Thanks! I know you know what it’s like to worry about your kids’ health.
Oh my gosh, I just got so teary eyed reading this! Seriously, thank the Lord it wasn’t worse. He was totally watching over Jade. I’ll be praying her recovery is quick.
Yes, I’ve prayed so many times since then, thanking God for being with Jade when I wasn’t!
I’m so sorry you and your daughter had to experience any of that, car wrecks are so horrific. I’m still traumatized by the one that happened almost 15 years ago and the one before that when I was a kiddo, it was one of the hugest pile ups in the U.S. with over 100 cars and semis. I pray that she has been healing quick, that she’s emotionally healed and that you and your family have lots of happy and joyous moments. Hugs, love and strength all your way!!!!
Oh my goodness—I can’t imagine being in an accident like that. It must have been terrifying!
