The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on my blog and share news about what’s coming up in the week ahead.

This past week on FYFA (and in my life):

Another unfortunately eventful week in the Hewitt household. We ended up at the ER for the second time in two weeks (in case you missed it, the first time was when my husband cut his finger with a hatchet). This was a much more serious incident—my daughter was in a car accident. My husband and I were at my son’s floor hockey game when I got a call from a number I didn’t recognize (and of course I just ignored it). A few minutes later, I checked my voicemail and saw the transcript. It said, “Hi ________ my name is _______. _________ is actually here um in the emergency room after a car accident…”

At that point, I pretty much went into panic mode. Since the transcription doesn’t write out names, I didn’t even know who was in the emergency room and I hadn’t gotten far enough in the transcript to see that whoever it was, she was awake and talking. I basically leaped over people in the stands so I could get to the hallway and listen to the message (it was super loud in the room). And after I heard it was Jade, I dashed back in and whisper-yelled to my husband from across the stands. Those were some of the scariest minutes of my life. Turns out, Jade ended up with a broken ankle, a sprained ankle and a nasty 7-inch gash on her leg that took 16 stitches (3 on the inside) to patch up. Plus, some minor cuts and abrasions from the glass. But when we saw the state of the cars, we were thanking God that nothing worse happened. Her car is the one on the right:

We don’t know anything about the other driver, so I’m praying he’s okay. That Camaro didn’t have airbags or anything.

After 24 hours in the hospital, we found out Jade doesn’t need surgery (thank you, God), and Jade was able to walk well enough on her sprained ankle to come home with a walker (once the sprained ankle is better, she’ll switch to crutches—my sister-in-law also lent us a wheelchair, which has come in very handy).

On a better note, today is my mom’s birthday!! Happy birthday, Mom!!!

    • Yes, it was a terrifying experience, and we’re so thankful she wasn’t more hurt. Unfortunately, it’s looking like she got a concussion because now she’s suffering from a lot of nausea and some headaches and general fatigue. She says she wishes she just had more broken bones!

  1. That is so scary and of course the last thing a parent wants to hear, So glad she was not more seriously hurt! Sending lots pf prayers and well wishes your way!!

Happy birthday to your mom too!

Hope you have a calm week ahead!! 🙂

  2. Oh my god I can’t imagine how scary that must have bee. I’m really happy to hear your daughter is okay for the most part and I hope she recovers quickly and nicely. I’m sending you and her lots of love and healing vibes <3 <3
A very happy birthday to your mom!
I hope you'll have a lovely week, Nicole, sending you love <3

Oh my goodness….I’m so glad that Jade is ok. Car accidents are by far my biggest fear, and I can only imagine how scary it all was for all of you! Sending lots of wishes for a speedy recovery!

  4. Oh man… I am so glad your daughter is okay! Please and her my well wishes. This is giving me flashbacks to when I had an awful car accident a couple years ago. I didn’t even have the guts to look at what had happened to my car because apparently it was bad. But anyway, I’m glad nothing worse than a broken ankle and laceration happened.
You’ve had quite a few stressful weeks so I hope things get better!

  5. It is so scary having teens out on the road. I didn’t get it when I was a teen but I definitely do now. I am sorry that your daughter has to go through this but am so thankful that she wasn’t hurt any worse than she was, although a broken ankle, stitches, and a sprained ankle is nothing to gloss over. I hope you have a much calmer and enjoyable week.

  6. Oh my goodness Nicole I cannot even imagine how terrifying for you and for Jade! I am so sorry it happened, but so very glad she is okay. And definitely sending good thoughts out into the universe for the other driver- that looks bad. Hopefully you guys are all done with ER visits!

Happy birthday to your mom, too! Hope she’s had a great one! 😀

  7. Oh my goodness. I’m so glad Jade is okay! I’m so glad we have strict car safety regulations in this country. Just look what happened to the car but it saved your daughter! Bless those engineers. I hope she settles in okay soon. I know how hard recovery from an accident is. <3

I’m so sorry you and your daughter had to experience any of that, car wrecks are so horrific. I’m still traumatized by the one that happened almost 15 years ago and the one before that when I was a kiddo, it was one of the hugest pile ups in the U.S. with over 100 cars and semis. I pray that she has been healing quick, that she’s emotionally healed and that you and your family have lots of happy and joyous moments. Hugs, love and strength all your way!!!!
