The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on my blog and share news about what’s coming up in the week ahead.

This past week on FYFA (and in my life):

  • What I Read
    • I actually read A LOT this week (definitely over 600 pages), but not books that go toward my Goodreads goal. I spent much of my week reading Author Mentor Match submissions because Megan Freeman and I need to choose our mentee. The decision is going to be tough—it gives you new respect for agents and editors when you read 50 submissions all in a row. There are so many wonderful books and fantastic writers out there, and we can only choose one!
  • Games We Played:
    • Unstable Unicorns. In a past Sunday Post, I mentioned that my family tried to play this game with all six of us but it felt neverending and we ended up giving up on one game and almost giving up on another. This time we played with just four of us, and it was a much better experience.
  • TV We Watched:
    • SupernaturalWe’re on season 8 now! We realized that they’ve changed things up a bit recently and moved away from the one-monster-per episode format. I’ll be interested to see if it stays that way in this season.
  • Agility Training. Our second agility class wasn’t as successful as the first, mainly because Digit refuses to go into a crate when he’s not on the agility floor (which he’s required to do). It made the whole class so stressful because we spent the whole time just worrying about that instead of getting to focus on the actual agility. We’re hoping we can figure out ways to make him more comfortable (bringing his bed from his crate at home, bringing a bone with peanut butter in it instead of regular treats, putting him into his downstairs crate more often at home instead of just at bedtime…) Hopefully it will all work out because the agility part is so much fun!

A rare pic of Digit with his ears back. They only go down like this when he’s super sleepy and you catch him at the right moment or if he’s incredibly excited to see you (and then they tend to pop up and down).

Here’s what you may have missed on the blog since my last Sunday Post:

Book Blogger Birthdays and Blogoversaries:

Happy birthday graphic Happy blogoversary graphic

Here are the birthdays and blogoversaries for this week! I hope you’ll go wish these bloggers well on their special days! Make sure you check out the calendar to see what you might have just missed or what’s coming up. (If you want to be added to the calendar, it’s easy! Just fill out the birthday/blogoversary form.)

Book Haul:

For Review/Purchased:

My son told me he needed Long Way Down for his English class, and I got all giddy. I actually knew that I had a review copy coming of the graphic novel version, but I didn’t know for absolute sure if it was the same as the regular verse novel and I also didn’t know when the review copy would get here. So, I went ahead and ordered the regular version (and the next day the graphic novel version showed up). Now we own both (and an ARC of the original book—though I’m not sure where that one disappeared to). What a shame!

Purchased:

My pre-order of Alone came in (you can win your own copy here!) and while I was picking it up at my local indie, I saw Class Act and couldn’t resist picking that one up as well. (I already owned New Kid, but I just added it to the picture to see them side by side).
(The squishie next to Alone is one my daughters painted to look like our dog Snickers. 🙂 )

For Review:

And then I got a surprise from Tor Teen – a signed copy of The Brightest Night by Jennifer Armentrout. Yes, and THANK YOU!

  1. I still need to read Long Way Down – I think having the “regular” version and the graphic novel is awesome. Hope you can find your ARC too!

Thank you so so much for sharing my Behind the Bookstagram feature. And I emailed you, but yes, feel free to share a photo and I’ll use your tip in an upcoming post!!!

Aw, poor Digit. I hope the crate part gets worked out soon since the actual class is going well. And that photo of him is adorable.

I loved New Kid – really need to get Class Act.

  2. I think when Supernatural moved away from that 1 monster per ep, I stopped watching it. I think I missed the humor it once had. Sounds wonderful getting to read all those submission. Aww, poor Digit. Crating ain’t easy.

  3. I’m trying to remember Supernatural season 8…it’s been awhile! I started binge watching it again with my mom in 2019 maybe? or 2018? and we finished it just before the final season started airing, so my mind is struggling to remember what direction it was going in then. But I do recall a shift towards having a big goal they worked towards and every now and then they were “interrupted” with having to hunt down a random monster.

That must be challenging with Digit and the agility training. I know we started “crate” training our older pooch on it early. Kind of making it his “bed.” So to speak. Plus when we were at work/school all day, a younger pup couldn’t be trusted to be out on his own, so it was always said “bed time” when he had to go in. We bribed him with treats (when he wasn’t so picky with the flavors) and cheese! He would do anything for cheese! We tried to establish the crate being a more bedtime thing, or when we had to leave the house, bribes usually did the trick until he got older. I hope the agility training goes better for Digit soon!

Nice new reads! Lots of new to me ones, except for The Brightest Night! Seeing a few people getting that one this week. I still need to read it myself. I fell so behind on her books (again)! I’m hoping to get caught up on them this year, once I get my review books all squared away I might dive into one of her series that has been sitting for too long on my pile!

Hope you enjoy all the new reads when you get to read them!

    Here’s my StS

    Have a GREAT day!

  4. Good luck choosing your mentee, Nicole. I can only imagine how many good submissions you get and then to have to narrow it down to just one . . . I am sure you will choose a great one. Hopefully the next agility class will go better. He’s so adorable. 🙂 I hope you have a great week and everyone enjoys their reading!

  5. SPN definitely moves away from the monster a week format as the seasons go on. BUT they are included throughout the season. I wasn’t a big fan of the first half of season 8, but I loved the latter half. I love Supernatural, it’s my favorite show of all time, but even I can admit it has it’s ups and downs. Lol. I’m glad to see that you’re enjoying the ride though.

  6. That would be hard to judge submissions like that. And having to narrow down the talent. I imagine you’re coming across some wonderful reads!

That long game reminds me of a UNO game we played once that WOULD NOT end. Oh my gosh we were so sick of UNO after that one lol!

    Have a nice week!

  7. Good luck choosing your mentee! It must be so tough to pick.
I’ve still never watched Supernatural, even though it seems like my kind of thing. I just know there’s a lot of series, so I’d have to do a lot of catching up!
    Have a great week!

  8. Haha, you have a slush pile. That’s how I spent most of my time when I was an editor. Submissions always came in much faster than I could reject them. I hope you have a good week and get Digit’s crate stress solved!

  9. You got some great books! I need to find a mentor for writing I think, but I also need to get more serious about it I think. Occasionally, lately, I’ve begun thinking maybe I’m just not good enough to keep working at it. I don’t know. Lots of stuff keeps coming up and then I don’t take the time to write and I feel down on myself about it. Oh well. Hopefully this week is a good one for you!

  10. I love the pic of Digit! Is he an Aussie? My dad does agility with his Shelties and loves it. Pre-Covid my son and I used to go watch the local trials and they were so much fun. It’s so interesting that all dogs have their quirks. One of my dad’s won’t the marks at the end of the teeter to save his life but only during trials and another one seems to have a love hate relationship with the weaves. Have a great week!

  11. Iza

We’ve reached season 13 of Supernatural, phew ! Things were a bit weird but I’m not spoiling anything, nope. Digit is as adorable as always, such a lovely dog. Enjoy your great book haul and your week 🙂

  12. Jen

I’m so glad you guys were able to make that game work for you! My kids have gotten into Risk (online) and when we played the physical game with just my oldest (once) I told them this is the game that makes you lose friends HA! And yay for receiving The Brightest Night by Jennifer Armentrout, I love that book so much!
