The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It’s a chance to share news ~ A post to recap the past week on my blog and share news about what’s coming up in the week ahead.
What’s been happening since my last Sunday Post:
Well, since I haven’t posted one of these since late August, I feel like a lot should have happened. But I honestly can’t think of much. The one and only notable (non-bookish) thing is that my husband and I visited Denver to check out the housing market. We’ve wanted to live there for many years. But after visiting, we realized that we would have to pay about $350,000 more there for a comparable house (and that would still be making some concessions). It makes me sad, but it just isn’t feasible for us to move there.
Book News:
Guys, THE SONG OF ORPHAN’S GARDEN got chosen as a Junior Library Guild Gold Standard Selection!! This means the book will go out to quite a few libraries. JLG says on their website: “Nearly 95% of JLG Gold Standard Selections go on to earn starred or favorable reviews and industry honors and awards.” Of course, I’m hoping mine is one of those!!
As a reminder, the book is available on both Edelweiss and NetGalley. Go forth and read! 🙂 (And if you do, I’d appreciate it if you leave a review!)

Lots of good stuff! Have any news? Feel free to share in the comments!
My niece lives in a Denver suburb after she finish ophthalmology school a couple years ago. They built a new house and the basement is a full apartment for my brother and his wife. When I was in college two of my cousins who I grew up living 2 doors down, lived there and a high school friend. So I’ve visited a lot. It wasn’t on my list though when I decided where to move about 10 years ago. I ended up in North Carolina.
Anne – Books of My Heart This is my Sunday Post
Yeah, one element that adds complexity to our situation is that we wouldn’t really be able to downsize when we move – the kids are still all with us, and my mom will probably be moving in with us more permanently in the next few years too! (She already lives with us half the week.) North Carolina is really gorgeous too – we loved it when we visited many years ago, and it’s definitely been on our list of “possible” moves. I’d basically love to live anywhere with nature. The Chicago suburbs are so far from anything pretty!
Congratulations on your book being selected. That is very exciting! I didn’t realize CO was that pricy, but I guess all big cities come with a big city price tag.
The prices have really skyrocketed there over the last few years. One house we looked up had gone up 300,000 in the last four years – so if we’d moved four years ago, it would have been fine, but we missed our chance. It’s possible it’s a real-estate bubble, though, and the prices might go back down. We actually bought our current house at the height of a bubble and then were underwater for years. It was fine because we didn’t need to move, but we definitely don’t want to do that again!
Denver sounds expensive. I got such a low interest rate when I refinanced my house during the pandemic that I can never leave.
What a wonderful accomplishment! Congratulations on the Junior Library Guild Gold Standard Selection.
Thanks so much for the congrats!
Congrats on your book award! It’s so awesome and will hopefully give your book lots of exposure. You’re on a real reading roll. Sorry your plans to move didn’t work out, but it’s good your husband and you are being realistic.
Thank you!! I’m hoping it will help with visibility, especially with schools and libraries. It’s very exciting!
I’m sad that you don’t get to move to my part of the world, but congrats on the book news! I’m so excited for you.
I’m sad too. Who knows, maybe it will happen sometime in the future – I can always hope!
Congrats on your book! I have been following your blog for years now. I am Youth Services Manager at our public library and get to order all of the books. I just checked and yours is available for preorder on Baker and Taylor, where we get our books. I added yours to the cart for January!
