The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It’s a chance to share news ~ A post to recap the past week on my blog and share news about what’s coming up in the week ahead.
This past week on FYFA (and in my life):
My daughter Danielle headed off to a special ecology course at Yellowstone yesterday. It’s kind of a camp, but they’re doing things like tracking buffalo and observing wolves. Packing was very complicated because of the extreme weather variations there and the fact that everything was supposed to fit into one bag and a daypack (including a sleeping bag and sleeping pad). It felt like we spent all week getting shopping finalized and rearranging and reorganizing to get it all to fit!
- Blogging
- I switched over to MailerLite for my email subscriptions. If you were already subscribed via Feedburner, you don’t have to do anything to keep getting emails, but please let me know if you have any problems with the new service because you never know if there will be glitches with something new. (And if you got this post via email perfectly, that would be good to know too.)
- I got caught up with reading and commenting on discussions linked up to the Discussion Challenge!
- What I Read:
- I finished reading a MG manuscript from my critique partner Ari.
- I read Long Distance by Whitney Gardner and The Seventh Raven by David Elliott.
- I finished listening to The Last Fallen Star and then started listening to Heart of Iron by Ashley Poston.
- TV We Watched:
- Supernatural. We finished season 12 and got about halfway through season 13 before Danielle left for her trip.
- America’s Next Top Model. I’ve now watched up to season 8. Why? I have no idea, but it’s the kind of show I can have on without really paying all that much attention, which I definitely like sometimes. (Every time my daughter Jade comes upstairs, though, something crazy is happening and she says, “Why on earth do you watch this show?!” I have no good answer. LOL!)
Here’s what you may have missed on the blog since my last Sunday Post:
- Rea and the Blood of the Nectar by Payal Doshi: Review and Payal’s Top Ten Addictions
- The Joys of Verse Novels, Graphic Novels, and Other Very Quick Reads. Let’s Discuss!

Your daughter’s camp sounds amazing! Do you ever look at the experiences our kids are having and wonder about your own summer? I know I did. My kid was taking classes at Lincoln Center with Broadway actors and dancers, taking classes at FIT, and I was playing in the fire hydrant and getting ice pops from Dan the Good Humor truck guy. LOL!
Ha! Yes, we definitely didn’t have the money for elaborate trips when I was a kid. And last year my daughter went to Costa Rica with her high school Spanish department. She could have chosen between that or a trip to Greece with choir OR a trip to Italy that had to do with food. It’s kind of insane, really. I did go to summer camp ONCE, and we drove to Florida every year to see my grandma. That was it. LOL!
Wow, that was a serious packing challenge. I’m a chronic over-packer so that would have been torture for me. lol I’m down to the wire and still haven’t made a firm decision about the loss of Feedburner. Guess I better figure it out this week!
When she got to the airport for camp, she said she had the smallest bag out of everyone! LOL! Apparently, the other kids all brought HUGE duffel bags instead of a hiking backpack (they said on the packing list that you could do either). They stressed that they had to be able to carry their luggage and we weren’t sure how far they’d have to be trekking with them, so we went the hiking backpack route.
That specialized ecology class sounds awesome. I met a woman who works for Americorps through the parks and she talks about hiking for her job. You’ll daughter will probably be walking a lot.
Hope your daughter has fun at camp. That’s awesome that she can go this year. And that’s great that you are reading a MG manuscript for a critique partner. Getting critque partners and others to read a whole draft is important. Hope you enjoyed Last Fallen Star. It’s on my summer reading list. Natalie @ Literary Rambles
I agree that critique partners are essential! And, yes, I loved Last Fallen Star!
Yes, they went on a five-mile hike yesterday and today they observed bison! I can’t wait to hear all about it (right now I’m just going off their itinerary).
I hope the change goes well, but these days I get everything through Feedly. It helps me organize and save what I want more easily. I also feel less pressure with not filling up my email.
It’s amazing to me the fascinating camps for kids. My daughter did Boundary water canoe trips, horse riding camp, a waterski camp, and a really great Stem class where they did robotics, built motorized airplanes and one class was called MacGyver. It was for 6th graders at a college campus put on by the science & engineering depts, and completely free to attend. They pick 5000 lucky girls each summer.
I hope you continue to have a wonderful summer!

Oh, wow – that camp sounds absolutely amazing!
Glad Feedly works for you. That’s why I try to have all the following options accessible. Different things work for different people.
Oh my gosh, that Yellowstone thing sounds so cool! It reminds me of the dinosaur dig I got to be a part of right after I graduated from college. I finished reading Grace and Glory by Jennifer L. Armentrout this week and now I want to go back and rewatch the whole Supernatural series. Have a great week!
How cool that you did a dinosaur dig!
I received your post via email, no problem! Yellowstone sounds like an amazing opportunity for Danielle. I know I would have gone!
Thanks for letting me know about the email! I appreciate it!
Yellowstone sounds fun. Trying to fit all that into a couple of bags would have been really something for sure.
Yes, it was quite the challenge!
I hope Danielle has a great time. That sounds like such a great learning experience. I’d have a tough time figuring out the packing too though. haha
-Lauren
I’m really hoping she has a great time. I can’t wait to hear all about it!
Wow. An ecology course at Yellowstone! How amazing! I can’t wait to hear all about it when she returns.
