The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It’s a chance to share news ~ A post to recap the past week on my blog and share news about what’s coming up in the week ahead.
This past week on FYFA (and in my life):
- Visit to Iowa State. I already talked about this in my monthly wrap-up, so I won’t go into detail. But the visit was enlightening in a couple of ways. It looks like we might have things narrowed down to University of Georgia and Purdue? But don’t hold me to that!
- Another busy week! On Monday we were at Iowa State all day. On Tuesday I took my daughter out of school for an orthodontist appointment. On Wednesday I had an SCBWI critique group meeting. On Thursday I volunteered at Bernie’s Book Bank, then my daughter had a track meet AND a choir recital (we had to leave the track meet early to zip over to the recital). On Friday I caught up on life. And on Saturday my daughter had a solo and ensemble competition for choir and then I took Digit to his agility class.
- What I Read
- I read a manuscript for a fellow author and then started another one for a different author friend. Then I read Breaking the News: What’s Real, What’s Not, and Why the Difference Matters, a National Geographic Kids book by Robin Terry Brown. I also started reading The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood and Song of Solomon by Toni Morrison, both of which my daughter is reading for her AP Lit class.
- I continued listening to When We Were Magic by Sarah Gailey. (And we also listened to part of The Handmaid’s Tale while we were driving home from Iowa State.)
- What I Watched:
- I watched the movie Just Like Heaven on Netflix. It’s a Reese Witherspoon flick about a doctor who ends up in a coma and haunts the new tenant in her apartment.
- My mom and I also started watching Kim’s Convenience, which I’m finding utterly hilarious!

Book Haul:
NetGalley:
I was auto-approved with Disney Publishing, which is both amazing and very dangerous! I couldn’t resist picking up a few books – and now I need to get reading!! (Honestly, I think I showed great restraint. LOL!)
First off, I got Bravely by Maggie Stiefvater. The combo of Disney and Stiefvater was pretty much impossible for me to resist. Then, I picked up The Last Fallen Moon by Graci Kim because I adored the first book in this series (it was one of my favorites of 2021!). And, finally, I downloaded Shinji Takahashi and the Mark of the Coatl by Julie Kagawa. Kagawa is an all-time favorite author, and I can’t wait to read her new middle grade! (I actually ended up signing up for the tour for this one too, so watch for that in April…)
I also received The Button Box by Bridget Hodder and Fawzia Gilani-Williams, illustrated by Harshad Marathe from the authors’ publicist.

A Disney auto-approval. You have arrived. They are the publisher that has rejected me the most of all-time. Perdue or UGA. UGA so far from you. Why do our kids pick these far away places?
I love getting auto-approved on NetGalley. But you’re right, it’s dangerous because now I want to read all the books. lol
Glad your week went well and was pretty normal, if extremely busy! Glad to hear all is going well with your daughter’s college selection process!
I’m auto-approved with Disney as well, but I was trying to limit my requesting this year. Only the reads I NEED do I request or auto-download! Lol. Though I am rather curious for Maggie’s foray into Disney! It should be fun!
Hope you enjoy all of your new reads!
Here’s my StS
Have a GREAT day!
Old Follower 🙂
Crazy busy week and very productive! Congrats on the Disney approval.
Anne – Books of My Heart This is my Sunday Post
Sounds like you had a busy week. Me too. Thanks for reminding me of my blogversary. I can’t wait to read Grace Lim’s new book too. Natalie @ Literary Rambles
The Handmaid’s Tale is really good in audio. It’s narrated by Claire Danes and she has such a great, dry voice for the subject matter. We love Kim’s Convenience! “Okay! See you!” Lol.
Definitely a busy week!!!
Ooh I’m curious to hear your thoughts about Bravely.
Exciting for Disney auto-approval! I used to have one of their publicists there that reached out to me, then she moved to Simon and Schuster and now I have someone there, but no one at Disney. 🙁 I am very excited for Stiefvater’s book as well! I had tried to listed to an audiobook of The Handmaid’s Tale, but think it is one I have to read. I love the tv show. You had a busy week last week, hope this one has been a little slower for you!
