The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It’s a chance to share news ~ A post to recap the past week on my blog and share news about what’s coming up in the week ahead.

What’s been happening since my last Sunday Post:

Today is Jade’s birthday! I actually don’t know as of writing this what we’ll be doing to celebrate, but I have a feeling it will involve video games. LOL! Lately she’s been playing a game called Grass Cutting Incremental, which she explained to me in depth—and I still can’t tell you much except that you cut a lot of grass? And then buy strange things that allow you to cut more grass? Yeah, that’s the gist of it.

I completed my first round of edits for my book! It feels so good to have things truly underway with the editing process. I’m really excited to be working with Emily Settle at Feiwel & Friends—I feel so lucky!

We leave tomorrow for Spain and Italy. So I’ll be gone from the blog for a while, but I’ll be sure to share pictures when I get back!

What I Read:

I’ve listened to a lot more books recently because I’ve basically made it my goal to waste less time playing random crossword puzzles or word games on my phone and spend that time listening to books instead. And listening a little more led me to want to listen a lot more, so …

  • I finished reading The Chaperone by M. Hendrix – Really liked this one, especially for younger YA readers who would appreciate a sort of lite version of The Handmaid’s Tale.
  • Then I read Food Fight by Linda B. David – This is a great MG book about a kid with AFRID. I already posted my review of this one, along with the author’s Top Ten Addictions, so check it out!
  • I also read Land of Broken Promises by Jane Kuo – This verse novel is a follow-up to In the Beautiful Country, which I didn’t realize until after I finished it. The book can definitely be read on it’s own though – it follows the MC’s family when they realize they’ve accidentally become illegal immigrants.
  • Then I started reading Come See the Fair by Gavriel Savit – I’m not very far into this one yet, but I’m intrigued!
  •  I finished listening to The Lotterys Plus One by Emma Donoghue – This book features a ton of diversity, and it’s a great read for kids who feel like they don’t have control over their circumstances and wish they could take things into their own hands.
  • Then I listened to The Jasmine Project by Meredith Ireland – This book is so fun for anyone who’s a fan of reality dating shows.
  • I also listened to Half a Chance by Cynthia Lord – This contemporary MG deals with new friendships, photography, Alzheimer’s, and lots of nature!
  • Finally, I started listening to The Civil War of Amos Abernathy by Michael Leali –

What I Watched:

  • I finished all the current episodes of Sweet Tooth and watched a few more episodes of Sense8.
  • But then I moved on to watching Manifest now that the final season is out. I had started watching this one a long time ago, but when I heard that it wasn’t going to be finished I stopped (I hate to watch a series that ends on a cliffhanger!). Now that Netflix picked it up for the final season, it was time to start watching again!

Here’s what you may have missed on the blog since my last Sunday Post:

    • I can definitely see that perspective on reading a book that’s similar to something else. This one did have the general feel of THT but it felt more timely for young readers, like something you could almost imagine happening next year. And, yeah, like I said, it’s definitely a bit of an easier read for some of those younger YA readers who aren’t quite ready for THT yet.

  1. “and I still can’t tell you much except that you cut a lot of grass? And then buy strange things that allow you to cut more grass?”
    It sounds exciting! 😂 😉 (I guess it’s more like, relaxing…).

    Yay for MS progress!

I wonder if you’re touching my corner of the woods in your Italy vacation…Have a great trip anyway!

  2. I thought the Jasmine Project was precious. That family was a hoot! Happy birthday to Jade, and safe travels for you and your family. I hope you have an incredible European adventure.
