The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It’s a chance to share news ~ A post to recap the past week on my blog and share news about what’s coming up in the week ahead.

What’s been happening since my last Sunday Post:

Hope those of you in the LA area are safe! The situation there is so scary, and I know there’s been so much loss already. It’s been a little bit hard for me to reconcile cheerfully promoting my book when the world is literally on fire, but my release happens on the 21st no matter what else is going on in the world, so I kind of have to. Still, I hope those in California know I’m not just blithely forgetting them. Stay safe out there!

The Song of Orphan’s Garden Book News:

  • I received my author copies! Actually, I first set eyes on my actual, real book at work when a box showed up there before I got my own author copies. My coworker started opening the box, got a quick glimpse, realized what it was, and immediately shut it. She then calmly said over the headset, “Nicole, could you come back to receiving?” It was such an exciting moment!! Then, when I got home a box was waiting for me there too!! I made this fun little video to highlight the moment:

  • The audiobook is now available to pre-order, and it’s on sale for only $1.99 through Libro.fm as one of their Kids’ Club picksI believe the sale goes to the end of January, so pick it up now so you don’t miss out! Of course, you can also get it through any other retailer that sells audiobooks (but $1.99 is an incredible deal!).
  • If you’re in the Chicagoland area, come celebrate with me at my launch event at Barnes & Noble Mellody Farm in Vernon Hills!

Past book news you may have missed:

What I Read:

  • I read The House at the End of the Sea by Victoria M. Adams, a wonderful fairy fantasy.
  • Then I listened to The Lotus Flower Champion by Pintip Dunn and Love Dunn. I’ve had this one from NetGalley for a long time, but never got to it, so I had to fix that before 2024 ended!
  • I listened to Bull by David Elliott, a unique Greek mythology retelling told all in formal verse!! (David Elliott is seriously brilliant!)
  • And finally, I listened to The Song of Orphan’s Garden by … me. 😂 I got a review copy of the audiobook so I could give feedback. It was very surreal to listen to someone else reading my book out loud, but Esther Wane and Keval Shah did a fantastic job with it! (Check out the book news section below for info on a $1.99 sale of the audiobook!)

Here’s what you may have missed on the blog since my last Sunday Post:

  1. It’s 100% ok to care about and worry about people yet go on and live your own life. 🙂 Please continue cheerfully promoting your book! This is your time! This is your moment!

  2. I love seeing all those author copies on your shelf! And thank you for the link to the Libro.fm audio edition; I preordered it. (I will be preordering the hardcover, too.)

Listening to someone else read your book must have been exciting but surreal. Did you have moments of being surprised and thinking “Wow, that sentence/passage/chapter is really good”? Because I’m quite sure it is good, but I know how critical I am of my own writing. It’s always a pleasant surprise to go back to something and realize, “Hey, that was pretty good!”

Anyway, I wish you the best of luck with the release, and I hope the book sells well. I love the premise and the cover, and just wish I had a child of the right age to give it to (in addition to my own copy.) But never mind; I’m going to recommend it to my library, where hopefully it will get into the hands of children I don’t even know.

    • I definitely had a few moments where I was like, “Oh, that part right there sounds really good!” It’s so nice to hear your vision come to life through the narrators!

And thank you so much for pre-ordering! If you’d like the pre-order goodies, make sure to fill out my form! (If you don’t have a receipt to link, no worries, just link any random file – I’ll know it’s you. 🙂 )
