September Recap & Best of the Bunch

September Recap & Best of the Bunch

Best of the Bunch, Monthly Recap 12

My Goings On in September: September turned out to be crazily busy for me because of co-op classes starting. I’m teaching a writing class, an acting class, and a blogging class AND my kids’ classes are just generally more challenging (and time-consuming!) this year. It doesn’t help that I stress about my son’s schoolwork more than I probably should. He’s a freshman this year, and he would prefer it if I were completely hands-off (all of his classes are taught through co-op, the local college, or online), but I have a hard time not at least keeping tabs on him– he’s proven in the past that he lets things go if I’m not on top of him). Sigh. I’m working on a new editing project. Nothing else. Literally. I’m barely keeping my head above water with just those two things. Yikes! August Recap & Best of the Bunch

August Recap & Best of the Bunch

Best of the Bunch, Monthly Recap 27

My Goings On in August: I completed my first course for my copyediting certificate through UC San Diego. Happy to report that I got a very solid A (which I would kind of hope since I’ve already been copyediting for a few years!). Now I need to decide if I jump right into the next course – I think that’s the plan. School is back in session. My older two each started two classes at our homeschool co-op (pre-algebra and Spanish for my daughter, algebra and government for my son) and my son started taking a beginning Japanese class at our local community college. (He also went to a Japanese immersion camp at the beginning of the month.) After Labor Day, the rest of our co-op classes start, including the ones I’m teaching. My youngest son has special needs, so he goes to public school, and his classes started last… Read more »

July Recap & Best of the Bunch

July Recap & Best of the Bunch

Best of the Bunch, Monthly Recap 16

My Goings On in July: We started out the month by celebrating my son’s birthday (and his cousins’). All of the kids did indoor skydiving, which was a blast! But the most exciting thing that happened in July is that we had Carmen, a Spanish exchange student with us for three weeks. We did SO MANY fun things while she was here. Take a look at the pictures below to give you an idea of what July was like with her around! (If you want to see the sign about what I term the “toxic waterfalls” click here.) I continued the first class toward my copyediting certificate at UC San Diego. Carmen was a big fan of manga and anime, so she introduced us to a couple new anime series. We watched the entire Special A series while she was here and started watching Maid Sama. It was fun to share this… Read more »

June Recap & Best of the Bunch

June Recap & Best of the Bunch

Best of the Bunch, Monthly Recap 21

My Goings On in June: June was a month of subtle changes. Since the school year technically ended in June, my kids and I are doing less school, BUT we don’t actually stop altogether – and in some ways I feel busier since I have to be pretty hands-on with the stuff we’re continuing (math for my daughter and a special reading program for my son who has learning disabilities). I started the copyediting certificate program at UC San Diego. I took on a new volunteer leadership role in the children’s ministry at our church that means a bit more time and attention. I started my first manga series (Death Note) and watched my first anime series (Blue Spring Ride). Really enjoyed both of these! We also started watching the anime version of Death Note, but decided we weren’t interested enough to watch the whole thing since we’re already reading… Read more »

May Recap & Best of the Bunch

Best of the Bunch, Monthly Recap 21

My Goings On in May: BEA!! May was all about BEA. If you haven’t seen my recaps (with giveaways), check them out here: BEA Day 1, BEA Day 2, BEA Day 3 My daughter turned 12 and we went to a fun indoor waterpark to celebrate! I caught up with the current season of Once Upon a Time, so now I need to find a new show to watch while I’m doing the elliptical. Let me know if you have suggestions! My husband and I also starting watching The Path (a Hulu Original series about a cult – I find cults fascinating!). Most Popular Posts: #BEA16 Day One Wrap-Up & Giveaway!! BEA is Coming Soon! What You Need to Know. (BEA Tips) – This was actually posted in April, but it was really popular in May because people were checking it out when it was time for BEA. (I kept it… Read more »

April Recap

April Recap

Best of the Bunch, Monthly Recap 22

My Goings On in April: Our homeschool co-op performed their end of the year performances, including a performance of a play that I wrote! I thought it turned out great – the kids did a fantastic job with it, and I plan to do more writing for our co-op in the future! Our family signed up to host a teenage girl from Spain for three works during the summer. We did this five years ago with a girl from France, and it was a great experience for our whole family, so we’re looking forward to sharing our home again this year! My daughter tentatively joined an Excel team for gymnastics. She had gotten really burned out with 12 hours of practice a week year-round. The Excel team is only 6 hours per week (only two nights), so it’s much more doable. Hopefully this will be better for all of us…. Read more »

March Recap (incl. pics from my trip to Arizona!)

March Recap (incl. pics from my trip to Arizona!)

Challenges, Monthly Recap 44

My Goings On in March: It was a bit of a slow month around the blog since I was feeling a little slumpy and then headed out on vacation. I’ll be back full-steam ahead in April, though! I edited Allie Juliette Mousseau’s newest Adult/NA standalone, Stripped and started an edit of a book for a new client. We went to Tucson, Arizona for spring break and had a fabulous time! Not only did we get to visit my husband’s parents (who live in Tucson for half the year), we also got in some hiking in the beautiful desert terrain. We did a few hikes – one that was almost 9 miles and another that was a bit shorter, but got us up to a ridge with fantastic views (see the picture below). This is the first time I’ve ever been there when the cacti were in bloom and it was… Read more »

February Recap

February Recap

Challenges, Monthly Recap 18

My Goings On in February: I turned 42 this month. Yep, that’s right – I’m old. 🙂 But it was also my blogoversary, and my blog only turned three, so let’s just average those out, shall we? I did a proofread of A Faerytale: The Beloved by Genevra Thorne, which is being published by Booktrope. I’m still working my way through season 4 of Once Upon a Time (my official elliptical viewing pleasure). I really love this show!! I also started watching Fuller House with my kids. It’s incredibly cheesy (just like the original show was), but they like the goofy humor, and I get to reminisce a bit. I’m a bit surprised by how many sexual innuendos they pack into the script, but I guess that’s just the world today – I have to admit it makes me kind of sad. Oh, and my husband and I have been bingeing on Chuck for… Read more »

January Recap

January Recap

Best of the Bunch, Monthly Recap 16

My Goings On in January: The new year has officially come, and it feels like it’s started with a bang! We started up our homeschool co-op classes again, and my musical theater class is doing the play that I wrote. This has been a blessing and a challenge, and I’m really excited to see the finished product (in April)! I did a proofread of The Rathemaker Magician by KL Horvath, which is being published by Booktrope. I went to the Truthwitch and Passenger tour at Anderson’s Bookshop. Loved meeting these authors! One of these days, I’ll get around to writing a recap. Sigh. I got a new couch and loveseat! Woo hoo! The old ones were looking pretty shabby. These are electric reclining couches, so we can now be even lazier than ever! I’m up to season 4 of Once Upon a Time, which is my current work-out show (I watch… Read more »

2015 End of Year Book Survey

2015 End of Year Book Survey

Let's Discuss, Monthly Recap 29

Jamie over at The Perpetual Page Turner has once again created her annual End of Year Book Survey and I thought I’d join in the fun! 2015 Reading Stats Number Of Books You Read: 165 (actually 167, since I edited two books that aren’t on Goodreads yet)   As I mention all the time, the unrated books are books I edited or proofread in 2015 (since I don’t review those due to the conflict of interest). You can see that I read significantly less than I did the last two years, but I knew that was going to happen since I was a lot more busy this year. First off, I did more editing (those books are included in my total read, of course, but it’s not like I just quickly read the book – and books I edit, I typically read at least three times while working on them). And, secondly,… Read more »
