This past week on FYFA (and in my life):
Well, I finished my edit of my MG novel this week (for now—I’m sure there will be more rounds of editing to come!) So now I’m trying to catch up on all things blogging. I’ve finally caught up on comments and I’m trying to get to all the discussion challenge and wrap-up posts read. I’m doing my best but sorry if I haven’t been around in a little while!
Other than that, there’s not much else to report this week. Oh, except, I won two more giveaways. Like, it’s starting to get scary, guys (awesome scary, though). 🙂
Here’s what you may have missed on the blog this past week:
- A Valentine’s Post Featuring the Macmillan Collector’s Library (& a Giveaway!)

For Review:
I received The Hazel Wood audiobook awhile back, but I forgot to post a pic (because it was in my car so I could listen to it). Macmillan also sent me this cute poster with a gold Sharpie. It was a little battered when it got here, but my daughter enjoyed it anyway. She’s been doing a little coloring! Thanks, Macmillan!
I also received these two beauties from Disney-Hyperion. I was so excited about City of Bastards because I LOVED the first book! And Captain Superlative looks absolutely adorable!
From NetGalley:
I went a little crazy with pre-approved review books this week. (I couldn’t help myself—they looked so good!). First I got Now a Major Motion Picture from Sourcebooks and then I picked up Tyler Johnson Was Here, The Astonishing Color of After, and The Inventors at No. 8, all from Little, Brown Books for Young Readers.
Won:
Remember how a few weeks ago, I said I’d won five giveaways recently. Well, I’d forgotten about one. I also won You’ll Miss Me When I’m Gone from Fantastic Flying Book Tours! I also got one of my other wins in the mail: An audiobook of The First to Know that I won from We Live and Breathe Books.
Purchased:
I bought 14 copies of Tom Sawyer from The Book Outlet for my homeschool co-op language arts class and, of course, I had to add a few things to the order so that I could get free shipping. 🙂

Lots of good stuff! Have any giveaways or great discussions happening on your site right now? Feel free to share them in the comments!
Congrats on finishing your edits! It’s crazy how many giveaways you’ve been winning. I hope you have a great week.
Thanks, AJ! And, yes, the giveaway thing really has been crazy. I’m on some sort of freak winning streak.
WOOHOO CONGRATS ON YOUR EDITS! <3 <3 And look at all your new pretties! I'm excited to read The Hazel Wood and gah, need to download Now A Major Motion Picture!!
Now a Major Motion Picture looks like such a fun book!
Congrats on the edits! And the giveaways too (what’s going on there?? Ha ha enjoy)!! The Hazel Wood looks so good, and Tom Sawyer! Yay!!
My True Love Gave To Me was fun.
I don’t know—if I figure out my giveaway secret, I’ll be sure to share! 🙂
Ooh teach me your ways when it comes to winning giveaways. 😉 Congrats on finishing this edit round. That is always reason to celebrate.
I have no idea what my giveaway ways are (except keeping track of them for this post, which I guess helps—but it doesn’t explain my recent rash of wins). If I figure it out, I’ll be sure to share! 🙂
Congrats on finishing your MG edits – at least for now! Oh wow, you’re rolling in the giveaway wins. That’s awesome though! 🙂
-Lauren
I know—apparently, as soon as I decided to read less the universe decided I need more books!
Congrats on finishing the edit! (This round, anyway.) And two more giveaways?! Can I drink what your drinking? Or rub your head or something? LOL I enjoyed most of the stories in My True Love Gave To Me (Rainbow Rowell’s was a real favorite).
Hmm… the head rubbing might get a little annoying, I’ll admit. Let’s stick to the drinks. 🙂
Daaang girl!! Two more giveaways?! Keep buying lotto tickets!! Lol!! Nice new reads too! I had received one of those posters as well with an audio download of The Hazel Wood, but sadly my poster was sooo severely mangled that it wasn’t really worth coloring.
I hope you enjoy all your awesome new reads!!
Here’s my STS
Have a GREAT day!
Old Follower 🙂
You can’t tell in the picture, but mine was actually pretty bent up as well. My daughter liked the gold Sharpie, though, so she decided to try her hand at coloring anyway.
*Applause, applause* Congratulations on finishing your edits. Now you’re one step closer to us reading it. Nice haul. I need to work Royal Bastards in. I think I would enjoy it, and would like to have it read before the sequel comes out. I am so happy your prize arrived. I hope you love that book when you listen to it. I adored it.
My mom is actually listening to it right now, and she says she’s enjoying it!
You are on a giveaway winning streak!! I need some of that luck! Congrats on finishing the first edit of your book all the way through. I’ve heard from so many authors that is a hard task. Hope you have a great week!
Technically, this is my second time through the book, but this time I made WAY more changes. I used the feedback that I got from the editor last summer and incorporated her thoughts (which were super helpful).
Congrats on the editing progress you made with your novel. That’s fantastic! It looks like you had a pretty good reading/book haul week. I’m looking forward to seeing what you think of Now a Major Motion Picture…that one caught my eye.
Have a great week, Nicole!
This was two weeks, since I didn’t manage to update last week, but it’s still a great haul!
As much as I’m trying to stop adding books to my TBR, I had to add Now a Major Motion Picture and You’ll Miss Me When I’m Gone.
P.S. It’s not a big deal (to me) that you forgot! I actually forgot I’d even signed up for the announcement thing (as I usually do for things). Thanks for the post shout-out 🙂 <3
I always feel bad when I get to checking my Jotforms and realize that someone put their info in before their big day and I missed it. I try to check it relatively often, but lately I’ve been behind on everything! I’m glad you didn’t feel slighted.
You have done great with the giveaways! Congrats on getting your edits done. I think that would be the toughest part of writing…but what do I know 🙂 Lots of great new books! I have been tempted by Now a Major Motion Picture but have downloaded it just yet. Have a great week!
I know—I can’t figure out how I’ve gotten so lucky lately. I’m excited to read all my new wins!
I got City of Bastards too, and I’m looking forward to reading it, even though I wasn’t as happy with the first book as I’d hoped to be. It was good enough that I want to read on though. You’re so good about the editing. I know that is what I need to do with my YA novel before I try to send it out. But I got started on that for NaNo, and got tired and gave up. Oh well. Maybe I’m just not meant to do any more than write stories for myself.
I did that too, Lisa. I literally NEED deadlines to get myself to keep going. Since I applied for that workshop, it gave me a deadline of the 15th because I knew that if I got accepted I’d have to send in the full manuscript. Without deadlines, I’m useless!
So many wins and blogoversary/birthdays this week. Time to start blog hopping.
Thanks for the mention this week! I really, really appreciate you supporting me in this venture!
I’m happy to help spread the word, Karen! I’m super excited for your store and I’m eager for you to do well!
Ahhhh congratulations on finishing your edits, that’s so great! I should start the edits on my WIP very soon and… I am terrified, haha.
Congratulations on the giveaways and all of these amazin books – I’m dying to read The Astonishing Color of After and You’ll Miss Me When I am Gone, hope you’ll enjoy both! 🙂 x
Editing really is a terrifying prospect. I sent the book off to someone else for advice and that actually was better for me. You might want to try it!
The Astonishing Color of After looks wonderful! I cannot wait to read that one.
Congratulations on finishing your first round of edits! It’s SUCH an accomplishment!
Do You Dog-ear?
I’m excited to have gone a step in the right direction with my writing!
Oh, and You’ll Miss Me When I’m Gone– I’ve heard wonderful things about that one, too!
So many people rave about it!
Yay! I’m glad that you are done with the edits and will have more time around the blog. It’s always nice when you suddenly have more time. 🙂
Ironically, I felt more busy than ever this past week—probably because I was behind on everything and trying to catch up!
Congratulations on finishing your editing! And your wins! Plus the only ARC I really wanted was The Astonishing Color of After yet that’s the one I got denied for. Little Brown is really quite stringent. Aww well. Hopefully I’ll get to it someday. I’ll look forward to your thoughts.
I have a few publishers who auto-approved me early on in my blogging and Little, Brown was one of them—I honestly think it was a mistake or something, but they never took it away. LOL!
Congrats on finishing your edits. That has to feel so good! Oh wow, the cover for The Astonishing Color of After is stunning. I hadn’t seen that one yet.
Hope you have a great week!
Finishing the edits gives me the chance to take a deep breath and relax a little!
Definitely awesome scary. You have the midas touch!
Yes, but just all the sudden. It would be nice if my luck extended to other things as well… Hmmmm… 🙂
Oh my gosh, you won two more giveaways?! LOL! Maybe you should go play the lotto with all of your good luck winning! 😉 And I can’t wait to see what you think of My True Love Gave To Me….I was contemplating picking that book up over the holidays because my library had it on Overdrive…but then I spaced? Ummm idk what happened lol. So I can’t wait to hear you thoughts on it.
PS Thanks for the shout out in the giveaway section *hugs*.
Always happy to help spread the word!
I’ve been a giveaway fiend lately. It’s sort of spooky!
I was going to request Tyler Johnson Was Here and The Astonishing Color of After too, but I have way too many ending ARCS 🙁
YES for finishing editing your MG novel! OMG I CANNOT WAIT FOR THAT BOOK TO HIT THE SHELVES!
I’m going to try to pretend that I don’t have way too many ARCs already as well… (just pretend you believe me). And thanks for your encouragement. I’m hoping you will see the book someday!
Thanks for sharing our reading tracker!
Thanks for making it!
