Last week on FYFA:
I was saving up all my 5 star reviews for this week apparently (I didn’t mean to – it just happened that way!). There were three of them! It’s kind of fun to look at the books I’ve rated really highly because these three books are all completely different – different genres, different styles, different feels – and I loved them all in completely different ways (yes, I just used the word “different” a lot – call me lazy). One is a YA contemporary that made me cry. Another is an adult contemporary with characters that made me absolutely insane, but I loved them anyway (this is probably my most incoherent review ever, but the book wrecked me in so many ways!). The last one is the latest in a series of adult fairy tale retellings that I’ve really loved! It’s interesting to look at the books I’ve loved and compare and contrast. I really think I need to make a 5+ stars category so that I can put the 5 star books that have continued to completely stick with me months later in their own category. Hmmm … yes, I think I will.
Here’s what you may have missed last week:
- Dare You To by Katie McGarry (5 star review)
- Top Ten Authors I Need to Read More
- Rock Angel by Jeanne Bogino (5 star review)
- Finding Mr. Darcy: High School Edition by Erin Butler (review & giveaway) – Still time to enter to win a $10 gift card and a copy of the book!
- Divine Scales by Jennifer Blackstream (5 star review & giveaway) – Still time to enter to win a book from this series!
- Let’s Discuss – Authors that Complain
Next week on FYFA:
- Take Me On by Katie McGarry (blitz & giveaway)
- Crash Into You by Katie McGarry (review)
- Evil Librarian by Michelle Knudsen (review)
- I Want it That Way by Ann Aguirre (review)
- Let’s Discuss – YA Stereotypes: Love from Afar. Does this Happen in Real Life?
Purchased:
I bought these two books at the Rick Yancey signing in Naperville. Yancey was an entertaining speaker, and I loved hearing all about his thoughts on the movie (it follows the book about 80% and he’s very happy with the script and was able to give some notes), movie casting (he didn’t picture Cassie looking like Chloë Grace Moretz, but thinks she felt like Cassie when he saw her read – she’s actually totally how I pictured Cassie, so it’s perfect to me!), movie props (they’re making a special teddy bear for the movie so that they can market it and sell it in stores – and the scene he was most excited about seeing on film is when Cassie was hiding under the car, but it’s not a Buick in the movie for some reason), why he used multiple POVs in his books (for plot purposes, but also because it builds tension when the reader knows things the main character doesn’t), where he got the idea for the book (when he asked his wife what she feared most, she said aliens – he said his would have been something like cancer or losing his kids – aliens wouldn’t have even been in his top 50!), and much, much more! If you ever have a chance to see Yancey in person, I suggest you take it. He’s awesome!

So jealous that you got to see Rick Yancey in person. He’s brilliant. 🙂 Enjoy the week ahead!
Yes! Yancey is not only a great author, but he was also fantastic to see in person – a great speaker and lots of fun!
I like the idea of a 5 star + category as I agree that not all 5 stars are equal. And yay for so many great reads for you. I loved Dare You To as well, I love all Katie’s books, she just makes me feel everything.
Yes, McGarry’s series is awesome! I read Dare You To and Crash Into You back-to-back and I had a hard time moving to something else afterward – I just wanted to read more of the series! I really need to get the newest book!
Yay Yancey!! Great meeting you on Friday, even if it was only for a handful of minutes! I had a long drive back and was eager to get home. Pretty much crashed into bed once I got home! Heehee! He was really fun to listen to and should he come back to Naperville for the last book, I will have to check the calendar to see if I am able to make the trip again, because I so would! Plus, then I would have a signed set of the books! LOL!
Your other reads are new to me but I hope you enjoy them! Have a GREAT week!
Here’s my STS
Have a GREAT day!
Old Follower 🙂
Yes, I was thinking about you – realized that you were going to be getting home at around 1 AM and feeling very sorry for you! It was definitely nice to meet you, though. Perhaps we’ll meet again at a future event. 🙂
I love when I have a string of books that are high scoring! I really need to read The 5th Wave, especially before the movie comes out
Missie @ A Flurry of Ponderings
I know – I love these sorts of streaks! Definitely read The 5th Wave – it’s a fantastic book!
I cannot wait to see what you think of Crash into You…..I bought The 5th Wave also! I cannot wait to read it.
I’ve really been loving the whole McGarry series! Oh, and I’m so glad you got The 5th Wave – it’s an excellent book! I already read it, but couldn’t resist getting a signed copy.
Evil Librarian sounds like pure awesome lol. Can’t wait to read your review!
Oh, my – it really was!! For some reason, I had low expectations for this one (I don’t exactly know why – maybe it just seemed like it was going to be silly). But it was witty and fun and a GREAT read!
Evil Librarian seems promising. Can’t wait to read your review 🙂
It was such a fun read!! Definitely check out the review – should be up on Wednesday.
My review ratings seems to come in waves too; some weeks it’s nothing but 3-stars while as others it’s 5 across the board. And, here I was thinking that that only happened to be. LOL I hope you LOVE the 5th Wave books, and thanks for the shout out yet again in your Sunday Post. 🙂
Yes, that happens to me too! And I’m always worried that I was just in a really good mood on that 5 star week (or a really bad mood on that 3 star week or something), so I’m glad it’s not just me that this happens to!
Gotta love having a good reading week with 5 Star reviews!!
Your new books look great. i haven’t begun the 5th Wave series as yet.
Thanx for visiting My Weekly Wrap-Up!
Naomi @ Nomi’s Paranormal Palace
I loved The 5th Wave, but I don’t own it. I decided to pick it up so I’d have both books signed. Plus, I think my son will really enjoy this one, so I’m planning on having him reading it.
