This past week on FYFA (and in my life):
I got to meet with one of my CPs this week, which was really fun! It was the craziest thing—she found me via #CPMatch on Twitter, and when I visited her profile I learned that she lived ten minutes from me. Even weirder, she actually used to live in my neighborhood, just down the block from me. So, we got together for coffee Friday and talked about our books. Such a great opportunity, since neither of us get to talk writing all that often.
My daughter had her first two track meets this week. I have now learned that track meets are LONG. We were at the meet yesterday for over seven hours. It wasn’t so bad until evening—then it got cold! My daughter had fun, though, and that was the important part.
Oh, and I spent a lot of this week planning our next vacation. We’re planning to head to the UP Michigan in July, and I can’t wait!
Here’s what you may have missed on the blog this past week:
Only one post. At least it was a discussion. Have I mentioned that I can’t wait for May to come? I’ll be so much less busy.

Hi Nicole!
Oh, I am so curious about the CP twitter thing. I have been considering Wattpad to get more experience with writing and feedback. It’s scary because writing is such a solitary thing and, to add to that, I am shy about my writing. But, whoa, it would be so cool if I can work with someone who can read my stuff and I read theirs. Any information on how this works would be lovely.
I didn’t know that track meets are that long. Goodness. Are there food services and bathrooms available while these things take place? This just shows you how much of an old lady I am because these are my priorities. How do you spend these long hours? (No one in my immediate family was an athlete or even casually participated in sports, so I am genuinely curious).
The topic of your discussio0n post sounds fitting considering what some people were saying about When Dimple met Rishi. I am going to check it out right now. I hope you get to enjoy your vacation!
If you do a search for #CPMatch on Twitter, you’ll probably find some people who are looking for CPs. I posted a tweet that asked for anyone who might want to CP and got several responses. Remind me—what age group/genre do you write for?
It’s crazy how some people find each other when they lived so close all that time! The trip to the UP sounds fabulous. I’ve been there and its lovely.
I know, it’s so weird when you find someone on the internet and learn they’re practically your neighbor! I’m really excited about our trip to the UP. I’ve never been there, and it seems gorgeous!
I almost requested The Miscalculations of Lightning Girl. It looks great, but I have way too many books to review. That meet must have been one of the bigger one (not a dual meet?). I remember the invitationals and relays being all day affairs on the weekends.
Yeah, I probably shouldn’t request anymore books, but I’ve been trying to read more MG and that one appealed to me, so… 🙂
This was an invitational meet. I had no idea what to expect, but it was LONG!!!
It’s so cool that your CP lives near you. Hopefully you guys were able to help each other. Your vacation sounds fun. I badly need one of those. Have a great week!
She was incredibly helpful. I’m so excited that we found each other!
That’s so exciting that your CP lives so close to you – what are the odds? It must have been fun to meet in person and talk writing. 🙂
-Lauren
Yes, it was SO strange! Who would expect to meet someone via Twitter and have them live so close?!
You picked the best month to visit the UP. We always visit my parents there in July. It would be more than cool to really meet you! Have you traveled there before? Any questions, feel free to message/email me. My daughters participate in track, so I know how long they go. And yes, spring meets are unreliable as far as weather goes. I’ve been in my winter parka and two layers of pants before.
At first we were looking at possibly going in June or the first week of July, but then we realized it would probably still be cold there then! I’ll have to email you in case we’ll be there at the same time!
I had to google what the CPmatch was. That is a neat way to find critique partners. I miss going to my son’s games. He didn’t do track but played Rugby.
#CPMatch is fantastic! Sucha great way for writers to find each other!
I love how detailed and informative this post is! I can only imagine how much time and effort goes into creating something of this magnitude! And it’s beautiful and easy to navigate. Thank you for putting all the work into making something like this. 🙂
Vacation planning! I feel like we always need a vacation from our vacation, lol. I just want to sit at home afterwards and not go anywhere.
Lindsi @ Do You Dog-ear?
I’m so glad that you find it helpful! It makes it all worth it when someone says that. 🙂
Regional soccer tournaments were the same for me, but you are right it was definitely worth it. My son is 26 years old now and has started mentioning different things we did as a family that he appreciated, and making sure I went to all of his “things” is one of them. I hope you had a wonderful week. ☺
Yeah, your kids appreciate the time you put into them—even if they don’t always seem to in the moment. -)
Wow that’s awesome and really makes you believe in fate! How cool is that your CP lives so close! and used to live in the same block!
Exactly! What are the chances?
Oh my goodness, what a small little world we live in! That’s so amazing and I’m so glad you had a wonderful visit with her!
SEVEN HOURS?! WOW!!!!! I had NO clue! You guys are troopers! And wishing you lots of luck at her next meet and bringing along blankets, jackets and heck I’d be bringing an ice chest and a trader joes bag filled with food lol! ♥
I know, it’s really funny, right? Who would have expected that we’d live so close!
